Handi 45-70
« on: June 06, 2006, 08:17:42 AM »
I had to go to town this morning on school businees and while I was there I made customary stop at my favorite gun shop.  He usually keeps 8-10 Handis and today was no exception.  8 assorted hornets, 223's, 22-250's and one 243 took up most of the shelf and there at the end was a very plain looking 45-70 with pallet wood.  This gun had the best trigger I had ever felt on a Handi, factory or worked.  Less than 3 pounds and crisp as breaking glass.... None of the others were even close and some were much worse. The only SS gun had a crisp trigger but it was heavy. It was all I could do not to walk out with the 45-70.  I might have to find a reason to go to town again tomorrow.   Have any of you long time handi shooters noticed triggers getting better across the board or is this an exception?

Triggers in the last year or so have been coming right in the 3-3½lb range pretty regularly, I think H&R is doing what we've been asking them to do in the past after the fact, now instead of them doing free trigger jobs at much time and expense, they're just doing it to begin with. Firearms that have been shot a lot will also have good triggers just from being used. A trigger job just does it much quicker.
