MICRO GROOVE AND LEAD

This is my 1st post, so I hope this hasen't been beat to death already.   I've been told lead doesn't work to good in mic groove barrels, but would paper patched swged bullets work?

Cast bullets work just fine in Marlin Microgroove barrels if they are sized 0.01" to 0.02" over groove diameter and are gas checked if pushed much beyond 1600 fps.  Paper patching is unnecessary.

like was said cast them big and cast them hard and they work fine.

NEVADAJAK - get yourself on down to Veral Smith's website, just a bit further down the forum line on Graybeard.  He has some really excellent information on shooting cast bullets from Microgroove barrels.  

Also, get on over to the Beartooth Bullets website - the owner, Marshall Stanton, has excellent info on cast bullets and microgroove barrels.  You may even wish to firelap your barrel to shoot them better after reading Stonton's writings.  It is not a difficult process and is a bit of fun, too.  I have lapped a couple of microgroove barells and they have always shot cast bullets better as a result.  HTH.  Mikey.

Mikey is right, I've taken a 70's vintage 1895, but used Veral's method of lapping. With his 400gr. LFN cast with wheelweight metal, I get 2 1/2" to 3" 5 shot groups at 100yds. That is with a Ashley ghost ring rear and there corresponding front. Plenty good for my corrected vision. Leading is not a factor either. The only thing that didnt care for the LBT bullet and accuracy from the Micro- groove barrel was the Bison that felt the effects last December. Invest some $$ and get Verals book, it is a small amount to pay to disspell some of the rumors and untruths about microgroove barrels and cast bullets in general. Load up and enjoy! CRASH87
