Question about Citori or Barreta O/U 12 ga (used)
« on: June 06, 2006, 11:46:34 AM »
Im still trying to find an O/U for a reasonable price without selling one of my kidneys....

So I decided to get a used Citori or a Barreta O/U 12 GA preferably in 28"....  All the once I see have fixed chokes (F and M) and they are always asking 700-800 and to me thats a little too much for a gun thats over 25 years old.  Am I passing up good deals here or are they asking too much....

I really don't know the value of O/U.... and all the once I looked at were in GREAT shape so.... I dunno.

Any help in determining prices (regarding fixed chokes or removable chokes) would be appreciated.....

I for several years was under the same impression.  This year I finally found a used citori at a local sports shop priced at $650.  It was on the rack for a while and the manager had seen me on several occasions googling over it.   On one trip said "I will give it to you for $600".  This was an older model 28" barrels that someone had cut choke tubes in and added an aftermarket butt pad.  It was in very good overall condition.  So you need to be patient and keep looking.

The price isn't bad but not great either at $700-800 used in excellent condition. I don't really care for the Mod-Full choke combination BUT it's great for letting a gunsmith work on. There "might" be enough metal for choke tubes and if not just have him open it up to IC in the Full barrel or do as I did once on one so choked and have them opened to CYL and IC. Man that was the best choke combination I've ever owned for my use of the gun. Sure wish I had that gun back, it was a Rem. 3200. I had another that was a Winchester aka Miroku with a Ted Williams brand on it that I also opened to CYL and IC. I love that combination.

I recently picked up a used Citori Trap Grade I with Invector Chokes for $900, and it included a Browning Luggage Case.  If your patient you should be able to find one at a similar price.

I bought this one for my son so he would have something to shoot when he is home.  I wanted a nice gun, but didn't want to go overboard for a gun that will get limited use.  Since then one of my buddies has been shooting it almost every week.  Now if I can just get him to clean it.
