Grandkids talked me into taking box of old brass we have picked up at range to scrap man.When the guy hands us $28.00 my jaw dropped. $1.15 @lb. Wow! I told them we'll buya couple Bricks of 22's so they could some more shooting done.

Yup! You should see the cost of just the surplus .223 and .308 brass as well. Since the cost of copper has risen so much in the recent past few months it is often more economical for the surplus dealers to sell the 1x brass for scrap rather than the prices they used to have their brass at. and so, the cost of the surplus has risen as well.

No,not the scrap yard we took them to. Here in Southwest PA.

They offer brass to me whenever I go to the range. I never though about recycling it, but I though about collecting it. I don't shoot any .40 S&W or 9MM-P, but the semi shooters just litter the stations with that brass. I figure if I decap it and throw it in a polisher, I have a bargaining chip in case someone wants to trade for something else I can use.

I'm a wheelgunner and a reloader, so I keep all my brass. Isn't it amazing how people just throw it away?

Hey Jim, thanks. I think a copy of this thread would go great in the "Treasure Hunting and Metal Detecting Forum" too. I can probably take a five gallon bucket to the range and fill it up. Sounds pretty nifty to me.:grin:
