Go wood and if you want some REALLY good looking wood get a Buffalo Classic.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

Welcome aboard!! :D  Take your pick, either one will work great, I personally like wood better that synth and Stan is right on the BC, much nicer wood!! Synth is more weather proof, not much gonna happen to it, but it's noisier in the woods, that hollow stock needs some sound deadening!!

I had to go count and it looks like I have 3 synthetics, a pallet wood and a BPW (Before Pallet Wood).  The .45-70 is on pallet wood, the .22 Hornet is on some '80s wood and the .243, .30-30 and .357 Mag are on synthetic.  Pallet wood is my least favorite.

My .223 and .243 Super Lights are both synthetic and work/carry just fine.

My .357 is also synthetic stocked, but my .22 Hornet, 7.62x39 and .45/70 are all wood, and in the heavier barrels I think the wood stocks balance better than the synthetics.

Wood for me please. Plastic stocks on a 4570 is blasphemy IMHO. Any 4570. Of course I feel the same way about scopes on a 4570. Dont flame me, I know that some people cant see well enough with open sights. (and Im getting close, Im afraid) Its just my opinion. No offense meant to anyone, so no one take any please. :D

For all the ones I've seen, the synthetics are a bit longer as far as lenght of pull.  They flex a bit too which helps felt recoil especially with the stouter loads.

I recently bought two 45/70's with synthetic stocks. I changed one of them to a synthetic youth stock for my wife. I filled both stocks with packing peanuts rammed in as hard as i could and placed 1lb of lead ignot before putting the pad back on. I went shooting last week using remmington 300 jhp's.I had bore sighted before shooting so it didn't take long to get serious. Both guns grouped about 3/4" at 60 yds. The youth stock gave me fits on the bench but recoil was moderate. We're both in our sixties and plan on using these for primative hunting in Mississippi.

We all have our preferances, and we all have our personall uses.  The questions you need to ask your self is: Which is more improtant, looks or utility?  What are the uses going to be?  What is the weather going to be while you hunt or utilise the gun?

If you are going to use it in rain or shine, hot or cold, then you need to go with the Synthetic.  If you are only going out when it's nice, go with the wood.
With wood changes in humidity and temp will change the point of impact. with wood, this does not happen with synthetics.  Laminated wood is also considered synthetic, that is the way I went with my .35 Whelen Handi, sure looks good and shoot good when the weather is 80 and sunny or 20s and snowing.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
