Re-treating Gore Tex?
« on: June 09, 2006, 12:58:36 AM »
I have a Remington 10- X Gore tex parka that I have had for more than 10 years. When I first bought it, it shed water like a duck. I remember when I first bought it and was out fishing in central Massachusetts I was caught in a downpour. It rained as if a giant bucket was dumped on me. I was as dry as a bone with that coat. Dad was really impressed with what he saw.

Well, it seems that the coat has lost a certain amount of its outer repellency. The outer liner gets soaked and it seems as if the coat gets very heavy. It also seems to be less effective as far as keeping one dry. I notice I sweat a lot more.I figure water is getting between the outer layer and the gore tex liner.

I have seen some coatings that one can buy to spray on the outer part of the coat. The coating is sprayed on and then you either put the garment in a hot dryer or use a clothes iron.

Has anyone ever used this stuff before? Anyone know how well it works?

All my Gore-tex is still relativly new, so I have yet to see the problem you are experiencing.

But here is a link to Gore-tex webpage addressing the issue....
