Finally took the plunge and ordered a Model 83 Field Grade, 4 3/4 in .454 Casull.  They had one in stock and I got it next day.  Took time last night to read the manual, then went shooting today.

I was shooting local new-manufacture 300 grain jsp, box of 20 for $13.  I really wanted the Starline brass to start handloading for it!

The gun was much easier to handle than the Smith & Wesson 329PD .44 mag I used to own, and quite accurate even for a first time out.  I did have one problem - the firing pin stuck in the "fire" position (protruding from the breechface) apparently on my last shot.  when I went to take it down, the cylinder (of course) would not come out.

Called FA, talked to Cory.  On his advice got the proper screwdriver bit, pulled the firing pin, wiped it down and checked for burrs, etc.  Nothing, and now it works like a champ.

Next I'm going to spring for a .45 Colt cylinder.

Signed,

satisfied customer :)  :)  :)  :)

Congrats on a fine shooter.
There was once a time that an F/A took six  months to get. I got to shoot a .454 last summer and it was quite pleasant.
When I was watching the owner shoot it, I noticed it had a very distinctive back then up recoil motion.
When I shot it, it did the same, you could feel it move back, then the muzzle comes up. Very mellow considering the power level.
Mine is just a puny little model 97 .357, but I love it.
Next month I'll be shooting it in IHMSA field pistol.

Your'e make'n me get really ansty to order a Modle 83 fixed sight 6" 454 Casull.  Its been on my mind a lot lately and the money is just about all saved.  With tax, license, doc fees and a 45 Colt cylinder I'm figur'n to pay in the neighborhood of $2500.  Soon, very soon!

The recoil IS easily handled. I'm going to take it to the range again today and get some more rounds through it.

It will really be fun when I get the .45 Colt cylinder.  Light .45s, heavy .45s, light .454, heavy .454 - a round for any situation!

Only bad thing is I have to ship it off to get the cylinder fitted.  I have a hard time parting with guns for any lenght of time.

Congratulations on your new FA.  I am also now hooked on FA's revolvers.  I doubt I will ever buy any other sixguns.  My first is a 4 1/2 inch 475 Linebaugh.  I want two more, both 97's.  One a 22LR/22Mag and the other a 3 1/2 inch round butt 45 Colt.

3 1/2 inch round butt?  Never heard of that model.  Where can I find a picture - I love big-bore snubs!

It is a special order option from FA.  You can get several options on both 83's and 97's including shorter barrels, octagon barrels, round butt grip frames, inverted crowns and so on.  To me a Model 97 in 45 Colt with a 3 1/2 inch barrel and a round grip frame would be a great CCW gun.  Smaller than a Colt and stronger than a Ruger!  I am pretty sure that at least one person here has had this gun made up by FA.  Maybe we can get him to post a picture or two?

Told my dealer today that I'm ready to order an '83 in 454 Casull with a 6" barrel and fixed sights plus a 45 Colt cylinder.  My guess is that within a week I'll be handing him a check.  Oh, sweet anticipation!!
