Had a 7600 synthetic Carbine in 30-06 ,right now I have an older 7600 270 I picked up in a pawn shop, the one without any whiteline spacers. I also have a 7600 synthetic 243 Winchester I just picked up bout a month ago.
Both have Weaver low rings and Leupold M-8 Matte 4x scopeswith regular Duplex reticules and barrel band front swivel attachment.
Both Have a lighter trigger spring and I smoothed and slightly reduced sear engagement on both triggers.
I am in the process of putting a leather covered recoil pad on the 270 but it doesn,t look quite right yet ! When I get it like I want I will post a pic.
The older rifle which is the 270 Winchester has a wooden stock and feels smoother to operate but I guess that is to be expected as it has probably been cycled many more times.
I Already know how a 270 win kills from prior experience ,I am going to try the 243 Win with Barnes 85 grain TTSX bullets loaded to bout 3100 FPS on deer this year.

I've got a 7600 in .25-06 with maple stocks.  Pretty.  And a Model 121 in .22LR that's not so pretty but a great rifle none the less.  I killed two squirrels with the first 2 shots I ever took with it.  (Couldn't find a picture of the 121.)  The 7600 hasn't taken anything yet.  Not its fault though.

I also have a Model 12C that belonged to my father-in-law.

My .257 Rbts. came through for me. Small racked Pa. ten point came strolling by, First shot, hit Him a little far back. Second shot centered a 4 inch Aspen, bullet went through it, third shot landed right behind His Head, which was the only clear shot before He went out of sight shot. Down He went!! This is my first Deer with the Rbts. I was using 100gr, Sierra Pro-Hunters and very satisfied with the Bullet. Sure wish I could Post a picture of the hole in the Tree, impressive that the Bullet held up like that.

I bought my first high powered rifle in 1973 while i was in grad school. it is a REM 760 in 30.06 with a weaver tilt off scope base and rings.I have a bushnell banner 3x9 on it now. it has never let me down. it has harvested a bunch of venison and a few hogs. it was all original until a year or two ago. when i got back to the truck after hunting in a thicket, one of the beaver tails on the forend was cracked off!!
i ordered a new forend and darn if it doesn't almost match the original stock. I shoot reloads 52 grains of IMR 4350 and 165 Hornady SPBT. very accurate my last 3 shot group was about big as a penney!!

Rem. 7600 270. First new rifle I ever owned. Purchased from K-Mart of all places in 86. I had a shooting buddy at the time who was experimenting with firelapping bbls. and talked me in to letting him lap mine. It was accurate before but after the treatment the groups shrank by half! I have seen some many looks of disbelief from shooters at the range when I carry back a 5 shot group that you can cover with a nickle! I shot it recently at 250 and the 5 shot group measured by caliper was 1.32. I replaced the trigger a few yrs. ago with the Timmney and it is amazing. Its as good a pure hunting rifle as has ever been made.

An old Remington 760 in 30/06.  It has accounted for a number of deer and hogs.

I had a 760 but it got stolen >:(  A friend of mine has a 7600 in 30-06 with a Leopold VXII 3-9x40 on it.
Where I hunt, we quite often shoot over 250 yrds. Although it is a nice gun and fast on the second shot, the trigger stinks!
What can be done to clean up and lighten what I consider a lousy shotgun trigger on a nice rifle?

i am told (don't hold me to this and send
nasty messages) that rem. 870's - 760's-
7600's-742's-7400's- etc.  all have basically
the same type trigger mechanism ( not the
same- the same type)
if you haven't already done so, knock the pins
out that hold it in (having been already cocked)
and take the mechanism out and give it a good
douche with some mild solvent and and old toothbrush.
(gently)
if it's like the ones i've dealt with, it will be full of
mung and trash and dried grease. get it cleaned out
good and get everything dried off real good with a
clean cloth. don't disassemble anything, just clean
it good. now re-lubricate (not too much) and re-install
your mechanism. most likely, it should feel much much
better .

good luck

Here in Ohio you cannot use a centerfire rifle for deer hunting but shotguns with rifled barrels are legal.   Last year I fitted a rifled 44 cal. barrel to a Mossberg M 500 410 pump action shotgun and added a scope.  Handloaded in 2 1/2" plastic 410 casings I load a 44 cal. bullet at a velocity near 44 magnum ballistics and it works great.
The gun funtions fine , is light and handy and OH legal,  I did kill a small buck on the last day of our gun season with it and was pleased with its performance.
Its the closest thing to a pump rifle that I own now.                              Jedman

Bringing back a old thread!

7600 rifle 6mm Remington. Have not set up this rifle yet. Only fired it with the factory sights.

7600 rifle 257 Roberts. This rifle is all set up with a 3X9 Nikon Pro Staff scope with Warne QD mounts and a leather sling. Rifle shoots very well but I have never hunted with it.

7600 rifle 25-06 Remington. This is the current Grice's special run in cool blue laminate. Had one in the same caliber in the gray/ black laminate stock but traded it away to fund the 257 Roberts.  I have a Nikon 3X9 Pro Staff, Warne mounts, and swivels all ready to set this gun up but have not had the time. Still need a leather sling. Hope to get this ready for this fall.

7600 rifle 7mm-08 Remington. This rifle is all set up same set up 3X9 Nikon Pro Staff, Warne QD mounts and leather sling. It is one of the anniversary editions with ugly engraving on the receiver. Rifle shoots very well but I have never hunted with this one either.

7600 carbine 30-06 Springfield. This rifle is my sons. It is set up with a 2X7 Nikon Pro Staff, Warne QD mounts and leather sling. My son has a slim build so he shot the Remington managed recoil ammo when he first started with this rifle. Now he shoots the standard 180 grain load and this rifle is a deer killer.

7600 rifle 35 Whelen. Same set up 3X9 Nikon Pro Staff, Warne QD mounts and leather sling. This is my #2 gun. Killed a small buck, several does and a yote with this rifle.  It is sighted in with 200 grain standard Remington loads and shoots very.

7600 carbine 35 Remington. 2X7 Nikon Pro Staff, O/U scope mount and leather sling. This is my #1 gun. Killed my best two bucks with this rifle 2005 and 2007. Since then I killed two small bucks and several does. This is my go to gun. Sighted in with standard Remington 200 grain loads. With the heavy carbine barrel it will put all of the shots into the same enlarged hole between 50 to 100 yards, my killing zone.

All of my 7600's have walnut stocks and blue finish. All are in pristine condition except the 35 carbine that shows some honest hunting wear.

I obviously favor the Nikon scopes and Warne QD mounts. I have taken the scopes off the Whelen when doing deer drives or in bad weather. I also use standard Remington loads in all of them.

I own lot's of other deer rifles but the pumps have been my favorite since 2003 when I bought my first one the 35 carbine.

Looking for two more to finish out my collection. Would like to find a 300 Savage and a 260 Remington.

If Grice's did another run on the 35 carbine in either blue of matte I would buy either or both.

Each year I write to Grice's recommending a carbine in 358 Winchester but I doubt it will ever happen.

These guns are fun to shoot and have given me much joy.

Mike.

Mike,
 NICE COLLECTION!!

I agree, I would LOVE a 358!!  A option may be to grab a "extra" 35 Rem and head to the gunsmith for a re chamber...  ::) ;D ;)

I will jump on the next 35 Whelen I find myself.

CW, I've got a 7600 .35 Remington with a 22" barrel and it will spit out a 200gr RN bullet at the same speed as my rechambered .358 Win 760 carbine with it's 18.5" barrel
(2400fps) when loaded to +P+ levels.  No need to rechamber a 760/7600 in .35 Remington unless you want to use 250gr bullets.  An alternate to
the 250gr bullet would be the Barnes 200gr TTX or Nosler 225gr Accubond.  The 760/7600 pump will handle +P+ loaded .35 Remingtons as it is chambered in the 270 Winchester and 308 Winchester, two hot numbers as loaded by the factories.

Since I made that last post I added a 7600 35 rem carbine with the matte finish and plastic stocks.
I have spoken to two different gunsmiths about converting to 358 Win. Don't know if I want to spend the money since I have the Whelen.
Added another small buck to the 35 rem carbine's tally and shot my first bear with the 35 Whelen in Maine.
If we are counting pump shotguns I have 14 870's. 12's, 16's, 20's, one 28 and one 410.
A mixture of Wingmasters, Express, Turkey, and Police.
I am going to New Brunswick in the spring for bear over bait. Might use a non pump rifle.
