Ok, i know i've asked this question over and over again but i need to again. I bought a Tasco 6-24x42 for my .308 and well it failed, i put it on my .17 which works fine together.
I'm now looking for ANY scope type wether its a low mag fixed or 10X or more vari i don't care anymore. That is low-end but robust and can be easily found and bought by me(a new graduate from high school) with very limited funding. I do like semi-tactical/target AO scopes like Banner 3-12x40

The Bushnell Banners appeal to me
I do have a $30 Barska 4x32IR but i doubt it could take it.
My friend and his dad both use a Bushnell Sportsman 4x32 on thier .308 and .30-06

I voted Bushnell of the ones listed, but Nikon would be my favoite brand. But, I have several  Simmons Whitetail Classics 6.5x20x50 that are excellent varmit scopes for $99..................

Bushnell Banners
« Reply #2 on: June 10, 2006, 09:27:26 AM »
I've got a couple Bushnell Banners.  They're good scopes for the money.  Was just out prairie dog shooting with my Banner 6-18X50mm.  It's not as crisp an image as more expensive scopes, and the outer edge of the image has some distortion.  But that's not such a problem if your target is centered on the reticle.

For a centerfire rifle, I'd pick the Banner line over cheaper Tascos or BSAs (Admittedly, I'm judging based on reputation rather than experience with the latter).

You'd do better identifying a max price range you can live with and explaining what you're wanting it to do. Most any brand on the list will do for some applications. What's your application and what's your max price range? And consider used scopes, you can move up at least one if not two full classes in scopes by buying used. There are always used scopes for sale in my Classifieds. I have several there now myself and I'm sure others do too altho I've not looked.

If you're patient you can usually find a used Leupold Vari-X II 3-9 at the upper end of your price range. Or if not patient you can get a new Rifleman which is basically just the old Vari-X II for $199. That price usually includes shipping. Check prices at The Optic Zone and I think that's gonna be his delivered price but I've not looked lately. Or you can pick up a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9 in your price range I think. In many ways I consider it even better than the Leupold 3-9.

Heres a couple suggestions for ya.
http://www.swift-optics.com/products/sporting/premium_riflescopes/676
http://www.riflescopes.com/products/676M/swift_4-12x40_premium_rifle_scope.htm

And it carries a no question asked warranty. You can find these used for under $100 and still carries it too.

I agree with Graybeard, find the Max you are willing to spend and work at the top of that $. Used Leupolds are a very good bet.

Dude, the Banner and the Trophy are both fine.  The Banner would give you the BDC to play with (provided you have a means to estimate range or just for the niftiness).  I have a Trophy 3-9 and it is satisfactory.  It has a clear image and the mechanism is repeatable and accurate.  For $79 I don't think that you can beat it.  Does it have an anti-reflective coating on the ocular lens?  NO.  Does it have flare/reflection in bright sunlight?  Yes.

$50-175 is a big range.  The Banner and Trophy both have lifetime warranties from Bushnell.  Personally, if I had to do it again I would get the Legend 3-9 for $110 and be very happy.  I have a Legend 5-15AO that is GREAT but it is $180.

Pick a max dollar amount and stick to it.  There too many choices, you can always find some line of reasoning to spend more.  It will just frustrate you.  Pick..........$100 plus shipping as your cutoff and shop around.  Secondhand scopes can be good scopes too.  The Big Man is right about that.  Doesn't have to be a Leupold though.

You can find a Burris FF II any day for $150.  The Rifleman and VX I pale in comparison to this scope.

How about www.riflescopes.com and look at their Super Sniper line?  They have 10X on up.  Cheap and good reputation.  SWFA is great to deal with...lots of friendly scope experts.  You can also try www.samplelist.com for additional savings on their products.
