How many of you use the .17 remington for coyotes? what is your favorite fur friendly load for it?

I used the .17 Remington a lot back in the early 1990's.
Took out a large bobcat at 50 yards or so with the Hornady 25 grain
hollow point. The bullet did not exit the animal.
No visible damage from the outside, had the cat mounted.
The Remington factory loads of the time seemed to drop off
in their explosive effect much past 150 yards, whereas the Hornady
bullet in my reloads still showed very good expansion to at
least 250 yards as I recall.
I got lucky and took out a coyote at close to 350 yards once with the
.17, hit it in the neck. At that distance, I don't recall seeing much external
damage to it.

I have a Savage 10 with a 17 Remington 24 inch barrel.  Mine likes 23.4 gr of AA 2520 with a 22.5gr Genco lead tip.  Load should also work with the 22gr Bergers however.  I tried Varget but got more pressure and less velocity, so back to the ball powder.  Larry

I shoot a Sako 17 remington and mine likes 19.3gr. 4198 behind 25gr hornady. Have shot this same round since 1985 have never needed to try anything else as they all go in same hole if I do my part and the wind is not blowing

I have a CZ Varmint in .17 Rem wich likes
the Berger 25 gr. Match over 22.3 gr. RL-15.
It shoots the Hornady 25 gr. just about as well.
This fall we'll see how they perform on critters.

I have a custom  rem 600..I shoot moly coated bullets in it and it seems to be very accurate.I shoot the hornady bullets.my load data is at home.am unable to pass that info on.I do not always take it coyote hunting, but it is going more and more with me.and with good shot placement,it sets those filthy coyotes down down on the ground for the count....
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.

Last year I watched my hunting partner shoot severial coyotes with his .17, I saw a few get up that had to take another bullet. My hunting partner is not new to the game, he usually shoots a 250. He just wanted to use his .17 to see how it worked. I believe he told me he was using factory 25 gr bullets.
Let me add this, I shot my new rifle last year, I never seen any animal move after it was shot. I didn't kill alot of animals last year, maybe 40 to 45 coyotes. But nothing moved after being hit with the 64 gr 223 WSSM and it didn't make a mess.

Gentlemen,

I have been using the Rem. Rifle in 17 Rem. and have had good results with it. So far none have jumped up and had to be shot again. As a matter of fact when you pick them up and shake them it sounds like a sack of jelly. I have been using James Calhoons bullets and am very satisfied with them..........Joe.............
