I picked up a new rifle at the local pawn shop, it is a short barrelled 336 in 35 Remington and it looks like it says "GS" after the 35 Rem. Maybe I am reading it wrong. What would the GS stand for? This is my 3rd Marlin lever gun and I think I am gonna like this one..Bought a box of the new Hornady ammo for it. Now I just need to get it to the range..

New saw a GS...that doesn't mean there isn't one...are you sure it doesn't say CS?

After reading your reply, I put my reading glasses on and sure enough it says CS, not GS. SO what does the CS, stand for? Thanks for your reply.

The C in 336C stands for carbine, which has a 20" barrel. When the Crossbolt saftey came out Marlin added the "S". I believe it stands for Carbine with cross bolt saftey.
