Cantilever scopes on a Handi-rifle
« on: June 13, 2006, 03:06:38 AM »
Would a cantilever type scope have enough eye relief to allow you to mount it on a Handi-rifle and get past the hammer so that you could use low rings? Bushnell has one that advertises 6" of eye relief, would that be enough?

If I remember right, the (now defunct) Simmons shotgun scope that I used on my Handi was mounted in front of the hammer with just the normal NEF Weaver style rail.  This Simmons was on of the 5.5" eye relief ones.  I don't think that you will have to get any special mounts.  Seems like I used Low Quad Rings, but they might have been Mediums.  I have been tempted to try that Banner myself.  Right now I am using a Trophy 3-9 on it.  I just can't get a comfortable hold with the Handi without a long eye relief scope.  I have used high rings and that helps, but then you have....high rings and you are some much more above the bore.

With a little hammer modification, you can use low or even extra low rings with just about any scope.
