35 Whelen Factory Ammo?
« on: June 13, 2006, 10:14:32 AM »
Two e-mails to remington about weather or nor they use core-lokt bullets in the 35 whelen have given me two different answers. No where on the website does it state core-lokt there tech.told me that the whelen is loaded with PSP only. The 250psp 's that i have are not core-lokt with core-lokt's you wont see lead unless you are looking down at the cartridge, a side view should show no lead but a psp side view will show lead . Now a box of 200 grain bullets said  Remington express rifle core-lokt on them and after examining them they are core-lokt. The 250 grain bullets i bought i am thinking are old and that they now use the same core-lokt bullets in the whelen that they use in the 350 rem. Magnum. If you go to the Midway website and view the boxes of the whelen they clearly state core-lokt. A second e-mail to them told me they only use core-lokt in the whelen so i am thinking that this is new unless my ammo was old but then again they haven't updated there website yet showing the use of core-lokts. So anyway for you guys who have Remington factory ammo please take a look and let me know if your ammo is Core-Lokt or just PSP.   Thanks alot Tanoose

I got a third e-mail from remington they stated that the 200 grain bullets ARE core-lokt , while the 250 grain bullets are NOT. So far that is what i have found. They didn't state why the 250's weren't

It could be that the 250's only have a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps, which might not warrant the CL technology.

Although I didn't think the CL was an expensive bullet.

I have a box of the 250 gr. 35 Whelen Remington ammo.

The box does not say Core-Lokt on it, just PSP.

They don't shoot very well out of my gun anyway, so I just use them to foul the barrel prior to getting down to real shooting. For that, I use a 250 gr. Grand Slam sitting on top of Remington brass.
