REAL bullets
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:24:06 AM »
I just noticed that Lee makes a mould for REAL bullets. I am new to muzzleloading and I have only shot round ball so far. When your using these REAL bullets do you use a patch? Do you lube them? How is the accuracy? As you can see I'm full of questions. I reall enjoy shooting RB and am curious about the REAL bullets - please help.

REAL CONICALS are lubed and using a wad under the conical can make a big difference.I shot them in my 50 cal. flinter and my 54 flinter .
I would try some before I purchase a mould.
I myself use my own lube 60/40 beeswax and lard @ a table spoon of olive oil
I would recommend black jack hill on e bay,He does a nice job with his cast bullets also remember to purchase a soft conical lead bullet,he also sell hard cast REALS let see if I can bring up his link

They shoot real well in my guns. I use the small REAL in my 1:48 twist and the longer REAL in my Remington inline. They are really quick and easy to load. I use a beeswax/crisco lube in about the same proportions as above. I melt the lube and dip the bullet into it. I leave the extra lube on the bottom of the bullet and don't use a wad.

The moulds are cheap, if you have some pure lead to use I would just try one.

Lee is the only maker of R.E.A.L.
aka; Rifle Engraved At Loading,,, bullet. It's made in two sizes for .45 cal, 50.cal and .54 cal. but only one size for the .58 cal.
The two sized versions per cal. have the same outside diameter yet different weights determined by length of the projectile. The REAL bullet as well as the "minne" and "maxi" style projectiles are elongated or bullet type. The only variation is that of groove depth and lubrication ring size/or shape.
Perhaps the only error made by a new shooter is to experiment with many types of projectile and lubrication searching for the best shooting group,,while at the same time forgeting that, (as same as shooting anything),true accuracy comes with consistancy of variables, practice and personal devotion to the task of accuracy
