Squirrels live in trees...So naturally when hunting squirrels, often the shots presented are "up". Here's my question: How do you all feel about shooting up? Do you live in an area where you don't have to worry about this as much as in more populated areas?
Where most of my squirrel hunting was done growing up, I've never felt comfortable shooting at a squirrel sitting on the limb of a tree with a .22. I was taught to always be sure of what's behind your target and was also aware of those little warning labels on .22 ammo. You know the ones: Careful, range over a mile (-and a quarter, -and a half, etc). I would shoot squirrels on the ground and on tree trunks, or any other time when I knew that if I missed the squirrel I wouldn't hit anything bad. I was also told that a .22 had more potential for damage if it missed its target than smaller shotguns pellets would. So, I used shotguns more than .22s for those tree limb squirrels.
Anybody else have an opinion on this topic? I would like to welcome everyone's opinion equally (no personal attacks).
