I just checked my 45/70 barrel and did not see the lines you spoke of , so maybe you need to call H&R cost. serv. and ask them , whats up with this ?

I hear ya it looks like somebody took a bulldozer and ran down the rifleling lands and left track marks on them but their straight in line with the bore like they run a different tool through it after they cut the bore then again it could be chatter marks from the boring tool.I wonder how many other folks got back barrels like this

Anything is possible. We once had a forum member who received a rifle barrel from the accessory program which had no or incomplete rifling! But NEF made it right.

Ok here's a pic showing the rifleling lands in question in my 45/70 Gov't barrel i just got back from fitting. It's like this from the breach to the crown. Should i contact H&R customer service with this? Or is this normal on the 45/70 barrels

Those are the radial drill marks left from the boring process send it back or at least call them. I bought a replacement .458 barrel (adams&bennet) and it has got radial drill marks in it too. I made a smokeless muzzleloader barrel out of it and it don't foul that bad, and it shoots very nice.

Yeah i talked to mr. Gorden one of the H&R plant managers monday on the phone after i sent them an e-mail with the same pic above he looked at my pic and told me he went out on the factory floor and looked at the rest of the 45/70 barrels he said they had slight tooling marks left from the rifling proccess he said mine had a little more than the others and told me to go ahead and shoot it and see how it does and if i had a problem with it ship it back and he would take care of it.But didn't think it would hurt the performance of the barrel. Now that's pretty good customer sevice in my book's
