Go for it guys.
I've been having a ball making up paper-patched loads for my Whelen. I got a 0.350" diameter 280 grain mold that casts a smooth bullet w/o lube grooves.
I've worked up a couple loads that print under 2" at 100 yards (this is with peep sights). And one printed under 1.5 inches. Velocities are between 2200 and 2400 fps, so this is full .35 Whelen power.
The cost per box is something like $4 to reload.
Kind of neat to know that I can make a home-made bullet that carries 3200 to 3600 ft-lbs of KE at the muzzle, and doesn't need to be heat treated in any way so it should expand reliably.
