toads

Anyone fishing the new soft plastic lures called "toads"?  they are sorta like the plastic frogs, but are designed to be reeled directly back sorta like a buzz bait.  I have bought a few, but haven't caught a fish on them yet.

  In fact yes. I tried mine this past saturday on a section of the  St John`s
   river (outside of Orlando) but drew a blank.
  Next time out i`ll give them another shot as they really look good coming
   thru pads and grass.
   No doubt in my mind they`ll catch fish...........bass that is. :D

Hi,
     I was in the Harris Chain Tackle Shop a couple of days ago to get some things for a Hommassa flats trip and was talking to a young man running the store . Sorry this is in Tavares,Fla. and asked how the Bass were doing and he showed me a 11lb+ Largemouth on the wall that he'd just got back from the Taxadermist and said he"d
caught it on a "Horney Toad". I think this is what you gentleman are talking about,so you might want to be sure you got fresh line on when you toss that thing! Good luck!!!

I have used mine in 2 sepeerate farm ponds since I got them.  Caught fish both times.  Biggest was about 2.5 lbs.

Noticed in a trade magazine everyone seems to be entering the "toad" market...must be selling quite a bit through out the country..

I used the Zoom horny toad a fair amount last summer.  Gamakatsu 4/0 skip gap hooks hold the bait in place a lot better than the regular EWG hooks do.  Also used 50lb. braid to quickly pull free from the slop and get the fish out cuz if they take control and wrap up in the weeds - they're gone.  Only caught one 3lb'er with it but the toad caught alot of lesser fish - especially worked real slow top water in lilly pads.  Rigged it a few time w/ a slip sinker to get to them in deeper water.  Tried weighted hooks a few times too.  Regardless I always texas rig it hidding the hook in the grove.  Water melon-red was my best color but I caught a few on white and also on june bug.  Waiting for ice out!  Toads, flukes and trick worms - can't wait.  Enjoy
