President defies most Republicans on immigration

Email to a friend Print this page Text size: A A As President Bush's poll numbers drop dramatically even among his base, the question most frequently asked by angry Republicans is: Why, oh why, is Bush so stubbornly rejecting the advice of his supporters even though that advice is consistent with the thunderous message from public opinion surveys?

The reliable Rasmussen survey, for example, reports that by a 63 percent to 19 percent margin, voters want legislation that controls the borders before trying to change the status of illegal immigrants.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger encapsuled the typical reaction to Bush's May 15 televised speech: "I have not heard the president say that our objective is to secure the borders no matter what it takes. That's what I want to hear."

Bush's dogmatic statement that we can't stop aliens from illegally entering our country unless legislation is packaged "together" with a guest-worker program is a non sequitur, nonsense, and untrue.

So what gives?

Here are some of the speculations grass-roots Republicans are making in regard to Bush's behavior:

(a) Bush prides himself on being a man of his word and he gave his word to Mexican President Vicente Fox that he would never stop the migration of Mexicans into the United States;

(b) Bush made a Faustian bargain with the big-money guys who raised more political money in 2000 than all other Republicans combined in order to nominate and elect him president;

(c) Bush is a globalist at heart and wants to carry out his father's oft-repeated ambition of a "new world order";

(d) Bush meant what he said, at Waco, Texas, in March 2005, when he announced his plan to convert the United States into a "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" by erasing our borders with Canada and Mexico.

Bush's guest-worker proposal would turn the United States into a boardinghouse for the world's poor, enable employers to import an unlimited number of "willing workers" at foreign wage levels, and wipe out what's left of the U.S. middle class.
Bush lives in a house well protected by a fence and security guards and he associates with rich people who live in gated communities. Yet, for five years, he has refused to protect the property and children of ordinary Arizona citizens from trespassers and criminals.

Much attention has been paid to Bush's proposal to legalize the estimated 10 million to 20 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States. Despite his denial of the "A" word, friends and foes alike recognize this as amnesty.

However, amnesty for 10 to 20 million is almost a drop in the bucket compared to the mammoth legalization of immigrants hiding under the deceitful words "temporary" and "guest worker." Those words are lies because the workers are not temporary and not guests.

We are indebted to the Heritage Foundation for its stunning report proving that the so-called 614-page "compromise" bill being debated in the Senate (under the Martinez-Hagel names) is a stealth open-borders bill that would import permanently and put on the path to U.S. citizenship at least 66 million people, with the actual number rising to at least twice that amount when they bring in relatives. Every category of legal immigration will be quadrupled or quintupled, and the racket called "family-chain migration" will be dramatically expanded.

The so-called temporary workers in their fourth year will get the right to remain in the United States permanently if they have learned English OR are enrolled in an English class, and after five years will get the right to become a U.S. citizen who can vote in U.S. elections. At the same time, the guest worker's spouse and children, without any numeric limits, will get legal permanent residence and citizenship.

After the so-called temporaries and their spouses become citizens, they acquire the right to bring in their parents as permanent residents on the path to citizenship.
Siblings and adult children and their families will be given preference in future admissions.

In the words of the author of the Heritage report, Robert Rector, this is "the most monumental bill ever considered" and its mind-boggling costs would be the largest ever expansion of taxpayer-paid social benefits. Adding these millions to Medicaid, and adding their parents to Supplemental Security Income benefits, will become staggering entitlement costs.

The Senate bill would make 25 percent of the U.S. population foreign born within 20 years (most of them high school dropouts), and the United States as we know it would cease to exist.

It is impossible in so short a time to assimilate 100 million people whose native culture does not respect the Rule of Law, self-government, private property, or the sanctity of contracts, and where they are accustomed to an economy based on bribery and controlled by a small, rich ruling class that keeps most of the people in dire poverty.

My wife informed me that his brother Jeb is married to a lady from south of the border, and she does not want the border closed and has a big influence on the President.  Is this something we have all missed?  GW trying to keep peace in the family.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

"W" sure isn't perfect...but what about the alternatives...Flip-Flop Kerry or Howie "Dizzy" dean would have not reduced taxes and we would all be facing hard times..

    Libs like taxes...as long as someone else is paying them..

    If they could muster the strength..we would be seeing our Marlins, Savages, Remingtons and Brownings being cut up for scrap..

    Then with their cowardly attitudes we would be suffering under Sharia law ..
   Have each of the libs in this forum measured their wives and daughters for birkas ?

   Will the libs enjoy bowing and scraping toward the east 5 times daily ?

  If those Liberal sob-sisters had gotten in we would have eventually been facing that kind of stuff...

So what you're saying, Ironglow, is that we're screwed no matter who we put in office, just in different ways.  I agree. All the politicians are blurring together into one hazy mass.

Yes..There's too much blurring going on in Washington...all we can do is vote for the more fitting of two very imperfect entities..

   We can only decide for ourselves:

  1) Which party would be more likely to defend the 2nd amendment.

  2) Which party would more likely defend innocent life.

  3) Which party would rather WIN the war on terror and which would rather "cut and run".

  4) Which party will stand up for traditional American values, the ones that made America great..

  5) Which party is more likely to preserve and protect our hunting/shooting rights.

  6) Which party is more  likely to require the lazy to get to work...and feed themselves.
  (to get out of the wagon and help the rest of us pull)

  7) Which party  truly desires the US to stay as the sole super-power in the world.

   8) Which party is not inclined to follow Europe down the road to a Socialist "nanny-state".

   9) Which party is more likely to honor the God spoken of in the Declaration of Independence.

    10) Which party is more likely to keep a well equipped military that is highly trained and ready to confront our enemies.

       Well, that's 10 choices we must consider...I could list a hundred more but ...you get the drift.

  Neither is totally right...but we should decide which is closer...simply because we have only 2 real choices..

   Actually, they should not call those political entities "parties"...because when they get to Washington, those individuals seem to start thinking that their main reason for being there is to "party"..LOL

brdavis;

Who says they are my party ? I don't belong to either major party...
   I readily admit that on a national level, I most often vote for the Republican candidate..not because he/she is great..but at least they put up generally SANE candidates, often with at least a vestige of morals..(the lesser of 2 evils)

  The party that is more-or-less in control has faced the greatest attack upon the US homeland, inherited a nation going into recession, Destroyed 2  ungodly, brutal, dictatorial regimes and caused another terrorist regime (Libya) to agreeably dismantle it's nuclear program...and then led us , through TAX CUTS to greater prosperity and the lowest level of unemployment in decades...

  The other major party says we were wrong in attacking Iraq & Afghanistan..to fight the war on terror...

   OK...I'll put the ball in your park..

   It has been proven over and over that "thebest defense is a vigorous offense".

   So where would the Democrats go into attack in order to prosecute the war on terror ?

   ...Or would they ignore history's lessons, stay home and play rope-a-dope...just absorbing whatever the crazed enemy can hand out ?

   So what's your answer ?

First, I don't buy the argument that President Bush does not want to control the border.  Rather, I think he doesn't want to eliminate the "guest" workers.  Whether people want to believe it, or not, a very large portion of our agri-business is toast without migrant workers.

I think the President would sign a law that would control the borders, but still allow an orderly guest worker program.  I think the only thing holding up a good law is the Senate.  Both parties are afraid of alienating the hispanic vote, so they aren't going to do the right thing with a Congressional election looming.

When people say that the Bush administration has done nothing, they are just showing their ignorance.  Thanks to President Bush, we now have a Supreme Court that is less likely to legislate law.  The war on terror is actually being fought instead of talked about and treated like a legal problem.  Our taxes have been cut and the economy was spared what would have been a very damaging recession.

Has President Bush been perfect--of course not.  Name one President that hasn't made some missteps.  At the very least, this President has maintained the dignity of the office--unlike his predecessor.

That immigration thing;
  As I see it , almost all of the politicians are afraid of the illegal hispanic vote (illegal aliens voting?)...

  The only difference is that a few of the Republicans have enough cahones to speak up and disagree with the "vote chasing prostitutes"..

   At least these few understand enough English to know what is meant by the word "illegal" !!!
