CZ 452 Vamint heavy barrel

VS

Savage Mark II FV heavy Barrel

For those who need more info, looking to buy my first .22  Will be used for target shooting primarily and my get some use for small game hunting. Would like a very accurage .22 and this is the reason I am looking at bull barrel rifles primarily. Also want a gun that can sit for any lenght of time and be pulled from the gun cabinet and taken to the range with little or no preperation and be enjoyed, reason I am looking at repeating bolt action.  Want to stick with .22lr because of the low cost of ammo.

The question I have is the cz really worth the difference in price?
CZ runs 470 can
the savage can be had for 260 can

Looking at keeping this rifle for some time and then handing it down when the time comes so if the cz is really twice the rifle the savage is then to me it is worth it but hard to tell from just looking at them in the gun shop.

Thanks to all that help me out with this

The only Savage that I had was their short action bolt rifle in .223.  I was dissapointed with it and sold it 2 months after I bought it, seemed cheap and had extraction problems.

I own 6 CZ guns, if you are looking at a long term ownership issue the CZ's are the way to go.  If I wanted a cheap backup, I might go with the Savage, but if it is anything like the center fire version I used to own, I would not buy one.

Quality pays for itself in the long run.

The American is just as accurate as the Varmint and easier to carry for hunting. I have never owned a Savage so can not give a opinion there.

I know CZ is a very good rifle. But I find the Savage to be accurate and reliable. I am happy with my Savage in 17HMR  :D

Thank you to all that responded.

After taking a close look at a mark II savage and the CZ at the local shop and considering what was you all have suggested,  I have decided that the CZ is probably worth the money and bought it.  Then bought a 6-24 x42 scope for it, rings, ammo box, case, some ammo for it, trigger lock.

I did go with the varmint barrel as I really am only looking at using this to punch holes in paper targets and not carry it through the woods and I have always found that in the past a heavy gun is more stable on the bench than a lighter gun.

Well it looks great, really can't wait to see how it shoots.

Thanks again for your helpfull responses. Now I just have to join a local club and get the thing sighted and get to work on becoming as good a shooter as the rifle.

Nothing wrong with the Savage. It is a very good cheaply priced rifle. CZ is a very excellent!! excellent!! rifle for a very cheap price! Just what you get for your $ is for today and miles down the road. :-)

Stay away from Savage. I sent a Mark II back twice & came back with major functioning problems. Gander Mountain gunsmith also tole me they were no good. Lousy service. Rifle came back rusty.

I've never had a CZ. If it weren't for the reverse safety, I would probably try one For $300 or so but not 380.00.

Looking for Remington 581 for half the price.
