ROSSI 7.62 HELP!
« on: June 26, 2006, 09:51:41 AM »
I need some advice here.  My new Rossi doesn't hit the primer hard enough about 20% of the time.  I've used wolf and then tried some Winchester usa (from Walmart) with the same problem.

Is anyone else having this problem?  what can I do?

thanx much for any help

mike

Unfortunately the Rossi Single Shot Rifles are made to be used with the soft primered "domestic loads" like Federal makes. Wolf and Winchester (S&B, ie Sellier & Bellot) ammo are loaded with hard millitary primers so as to not detonate with the SKS/AK- 47 clone's floating firing pins.
Ignorance leads us into the darkness, Knowlege leads us out.

Here's a good thread gone over earlier:

The hard recessed primers are the culprit. There are a few hunting loads around though:

With this price for factory 7.62x39 rounds, you might want to consider handloading for it. If your not a handloader don't let it scare you. It's a great hobby and a ton of fun. Not to mention the $$ is stretched out good.
The little Russian is a nice little round with good potiential. Fun to shoot, very very low recoil, not as loud as it's other 30cal brothers, and decent bullet selection. I just need to call and verify the bore diameter to see if it's the Russian .311-.312 or the American standard .308
