That 500 Linebaugh is a beauty.  And I think there is something to be said for having a custom from the guy who invented the cartridge.  As for your choice of cartridge and game, I am right there with you.  I carry my 475 every day and it has killed way more coyotes, racoons, skunks and gophers than dangerous game but at least a thirty or forty to one ratio.  I have yet to recover a 420 grainer from any animal, game or varmint.  I too load em down to about 980 fps.  The last racoon I popped was standing in front of a 16 inch thick tree.  I got full penetration on both and neither of them, the racoon or the tree took another step.

Here is how I look at it.  John is a good friend and when I take that gun out, I can remember times when we were together.

It may be overkill, but every time I shoot a rabbit or a squirrel with this gun, I am that much more confident in my ability to put a hole through that whitetail this winter.  That is good enough reason for me.

Another great point and another one I perscribe to.  Beware the man with one gun.  I too believe the more I handle and shoot my 475 the more reliable I bocome with it.  I look forward to the day it becomes an extension of my arm.
