LET US DISCUSS
« on: June 29, 2006, 01:59:25 AM »
I like the thought of a pump or semi-auto, leaver actions are not out of the question, though the calibers are kinda limited for my taste.
I like the thought of a 30-06, .308 and even the 35 Wheelen--that said .357 is ok also.
What I don't think fits my midset is:
A rifle which does not take a magazine.
A .223 of anything.

The Remingtons do not seem to fit the magazine thought.
The carbines from Ruger seem limited, as most carbines are, but the main concern is the accuracy reported. I am unsure of the reliablility.

If, and a big IF, I were to make a choice "today." I would have need of a mil-surp of some kind.
I am close to the Remington but this Mag thing is a question in my mind.

Why not an M1Garand.  I don't understand why you would disqualify a gun with a magasine because you are knocking out sooo many guns.  Based on your criteria (minus the magazine issue) an M14 would be a good choice, or maybe the new SOCOM M1 that Springfield has.  Other than that, I see an M1 Garand in your future.

I carried a Garand and all nine punds of it in Korea but I would pick the M1A as the best now due to the magazine, the Johnson would have been a better choice than the Garand but did not make the cut do to politics, love the 06 but the 308 is closer and weighs less.I still would use the pump shotgun[I have a 1300] as Tak San Ichi Ban in the house with #1 and #4 buck it is devastating and wont tear through walls.

I like the M-14, it seems to fit the bill.
I am having a tough time finding them.
The reason for the mag thought is that the internal mags are limited too 4 rounds----I am not that quick anymore--well, er, maybe never.

Springfield Armory makes brand new M1 style rifles.

DSA makes FN FAL rifles. My friend bought the STG58A Austrian FAL Rifle. It's pretty nice.

What do you want to use this rifle for? Hunting? Self/home defense? Target shooting/plinking? Pest control?

Since you posted in the "Self Defense Guns and Exotic Weapons" forum, i think the Saiga 308 would fit the bill for almost anything you might want a gun for.  I just picked one up (along with a Saiga 12) and plan to use it this deer season as my primary brush gun.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!
