Tweaking the 1895GS?
« on: June 29, 2006, 09:35:21 AM »
I'm in the process of getting   a 1895GS cal.45/70.
Beyond:lengthening the stock/installing a receiver sight/adding a sling,
are there any other items to increase reliability of this rifle?
Thanks.

There are a couple of things that "CLAIM" to add to the reliability.

1st......the magazine follower is plastic in the 1895 and some fellows change it to an aluminum follower.  This is suppose to make the gun feed "better" out of the tube and is said to really help with the new hornady ammo?

2nd.....there is what is known as the wildwest "bearproof" extractor that is "supposed" to increase reliability on shell ejection?........

I don't have any of these goodies on my 1895 and have had any problems.  If you handload make sure the COL is correct and you will probably never have a problem either.

It's a great gun that's fun to own and shoot.......

I've been looking at putting a spring kit in mine. Might help the trigger a little. It's crisp, but heavy.
