Big Bill, I bought a 98 Turk in 8mmjs for $70 & it shoots great with handloaded 150 PSP Rem bullets in reformed 30-06 cases with 4895 powder. So I can't understand folks complaining about mil-surplus gun prices. I haven't had that rifle but about 6 wks. :roll:

If you just want to plink its one of the best buys out there right now. You are right you can't go wrong. And they cleanup nice too. Some of this stuff is a little out there mainly the american made stuff. Whats driving the prices is supply and demand and the growing sport of collecting which i only started really collecting last year I had a few (two) since late '70's and got into sks's in the '80's. If we get our C&R's we can still get prices(dealer cost) like they were back then on some stuff. What i'm saying is dealer cost now was the list prices back then so we can still save $$$$ and more by shopping smart too you get flyers from wholesalers/importers on specials/deals too. So we can save until it comes to the high priced stuff (garands/'03's/m14's) I seen a garands $1200 to $1600 the other day. And at shows their out of site for the condition they are in. When i deceided to start collecting I wanted to collect modern guns then looked at the prices and how much they have gone up?( i paid $145 for a 444 marlin in the 70's) I then looked at american military guns(03's & garand prices) and moved on to foreign made military guns and there still affordable you just can't beat the bang for the buck we get. There is 8mm turk ammo for 70rds for $4.95 if you don't want to reload for some just plinkin fun and the cost of the turk 1938 mauser you can't beat it. Some of my best finds have been in pawn shops now with the bad economy you have to make pawn shops are regular stops more often you never know what will be there. Some think the Gun Forums are driving prices up its not its the popularity of certain guns. I seen an M1895 Chilean 7MM mauser in a local pawn shop for $139 in excellent condition I flew home posted here what i had found and S.Sumner answered me and said grab it quick so i went back and bought it. Now i have just seen the same gun for sale on the internet priced between $300 to $800 range. It pays to wait and shop around unless its in excellent/new condition which is harder to find certain guns in this condition to me its worth a few $$ more. Another good buy right now is the M91/30 russian/finnish mosin from samco $79 very good condition. It seems the less I spend the better buy i get?? Funny how it works out.

Rem. rolling block (Egyptian) $15
Italian Veterli $9
Snyder carbine (India) $15
US Mod 1917 $40
and so on.
My pay then: $1.25/hr (fed. min.)
Milsurp guns are as cheap as ever, if not more so! :lol:

Also in '66 my first car a 55 chevy $25 gas was .20 a gallon too. BigBill

Bill, I 'm heavy into CAS right now so I don't buy military like I used to,but it's still fun buying an old warhorse & bringing it back to life at the range. I don't shoot imported mil-surplus ammo. Several reasons. I load my own, & if I don't have what I need I will borrow some few components til I can order some. We have lots of Mil-surplus rifle shooters in our club.

up here ihave found most milsurp rifles that are in shooting condition to go for a fairly cheap price. polish M44, M1891, and enfields all sell for between $50-$80, and the occasional 7.7mm JAP. arisaka turns up for $125. you yankee fellers should come by your guns up here!!
