Contender/Encore rifle ergonomics

:eek:  :roll:  :D I have been pondering the contender carbine plunge for sometime. But the layout of the stock brings me some concern. I fondled one at a Sprtsmans Wharehouse and it felt wierd. How are they with the heavier cartridges in terms of recoil? Do you find yourself getting slapped in the face very easily? Do your petite friends and kids enjoy shooting them in huntable cartridges?

I have a 223 20" custom shop barreled rifle with a youth stock for my 12yr old to shoot prarie dogs with and she loves it. She did a big growth spurt this year and I figured she would want me to change the stock but she likes it so well she won't let me. Even with the short stock it's not too bad to shoot for me.  KN

How about a 7-30 carbine?

I have a  Bullberry built 20" bull barrel in 7-30 Waters equipped with their stock and fore end and really like the way it handles. Do not find recoil an issue, however... before I went this route I tried a super 16" in the same caliber with Thompson's synthetic stocks and it felt like a toy with very little weight to balance forward of the action. Had a couple of close calls with my brow just being brushed by the scope ring! Have more contender stuff but this has become my primary deer getter :grin:
