Improved golf ball mortar?
« on: July 09, 2006, 05:21:43 AM »
I have read some posts about the golf balls vering off after being fired and read about some methods of making the ball spin a little. As I am getting ready to build my first I was wondering if I should go ahead and make a small grove in the bottom of the bore to see if it would work. I can easily do this. I know it may sound silly, but I think getting close to hitting the target would be fun!

Forget the groove and use less powder, you'll hit the target just fine

Ah hah, so it is just a problem with too much pressure. I knew I would spend the rest of my life explaining "why the grove?"
Thanks--------Michael

In my limited shooting and observing experience of golf ball mortars, they have not suffered from the knuckleball effect that higher velocity guns such as howitzers and cannon do.
