To bed or not to bed?
« on: July 09, 2006, 02:49:00 PM »
Hey guys I have a 98 mauser sporter 7mm and was wondering if I should bed the stock on it. It has the thin tappered barrel that is long enouph to knock done most targets without the use of ammunition. Would free floating the barrel do anything good or bad?
While were all reading this, another question about blueing. I know hot blue is the way to go. but I don't want to be found dead because my wife sees a bill for the equipment. Is wonder blue anything to try? They say it is good. what about you guys? any advise would be great. Thanks

It sounds as if someone 'sporterized a 98 by cutting back the stock. Bedding and barrel length really don't have much influence on one another. If the stocks a remodeled military then bedding will likely help. If the barrel is still the stepped military a recrown at the least is VERY likely to be beneficial to accuracy. A damaged crown can really destroy accuracy..
