7.65 Argentine Mauser

I've had a 1891 7.65 Argentine Mauser for about 20 years now. Mine is "sporterized" into a carbine configuration and shoots fairly well. The main problem with this particular rifle is FINDING AMMUNITION FOR IT, mainly at a reasonable price. The only soft-point hunting ammo I ever found was from Norma at over $20 for a box of 20. Even the military ball ammo for it is expensive and most of it I've seen IS NOT non-corrosive primed. $169 might be a little "high" for a rifle this difficult to find ammo for it.

I have the Rifle version of the 1891
(Sword Bayonet also)
I love it!  The ammo Is quite easy to find
in the "ShotGun News". (In last issue $8.95? per 50)
Softpoint is costly though.
(As with any other military surplus, STOCK UP !!!)
The asking price is actually not bad for the Carbine, They are
pretty rare in the U.S.
Are you sure its Argentine (Shaking Hands Crest) Because
the Belgians used it too !
Make sure it isn't a chopped up rifle before you buy it.
(You already know how I feel about "Sporterizing")

Try to HAGGLE a little for a price drop, But If it's in
good shape, the price isn't bad!

I just ordered a case of 7.65 argentine ammo 750rds / $80.  The guy has another 1891 carbine same as the one I have I'm thinking about going back and buying that one too.                              BigBill

The Argentine Mauser is easy to load for.  Cases can be made from '06 brass and bullets for the .303 British or even from the 7.62X39 will work fine.  See Nonte's book.
