“PRECISION CENTER” BFR revolvers
« on: July 10, 2006, 03:22:42 PM »
I just found this page http://www.magnumresearch.com/bfr_precision.asp . Anybody has one of these “PRECISION CENTER” BFR revolvers? How their accuracy compares to Freedom Arms? They specified short frame cylinder length 1.903”. Looks like that even long bullets with meplat-to-crimp length .500” for 45 Redhawk or Anaconda could be used with 454 case. This could be awesome combination. If they only make it in Bisley configuration… Thanks, Onty.

what is the general consensus on the magnum research BFRs?  Are they worth the money for one of their prcision guns, or would the money be better spent on a Freedom Arms.  I am concerned about how accurate and durable the BFRs are.  I am looking at a T/C as well, but think it would rather have a revolver.  I want a .475 linebaugh.

I just sold my BFR 475 since I am having a custom one being built by Alan Harton of Houston on a Bisley.  Mine was a wonderful five shooter.  Very accurate,  tight,  and had a decent trigger.  I would say they are a best buy for the money.  Mine was one of the newer ones with the JT serial number prefix.  I was very satisfied and would buy another.

Does anyone else have an opinion about the BFR?  Also I was curious how the recoil compares with the 454? ??? ???

I was reading the article on their web site written by John Taffin.  He had some impressive things to say about the accuracy.  Especialy in the .475/.480.  I realize that they are not going to put any negative articles on there.  Anyone else with experience with bfr's have anything to say about it?  How would they compare with Dan Wessons, and(I know I will probably get slammed for this but) Freedom Arms, as far as accuracy goes.

i talked to john about that article and that bfr, it was as accurate as any pistol he's shot, bar none, and it wasn't a performance center gun.  i'm gonna get a performance center .475.  a few things i prefer over my FA's, one for a .475 backup gun when bowhunting i like the transfer bar safety so all chambers can be carried loaded, 2nd it should be a few hundred cheaper than a FA field grade with adjustable sights which will pay for dies, brass and a couple boxes of buffalo bore ammo.  talked to the owner jim and he talked at length about how they've upped the quality and the ones i've seen were immensely better than any ruger i've seen and i like the big smith .500 better than the SW.500 pistol.  it was tighter all the way around so i'm not afraid to give 'em a shot.
a gun owner that votes dem is an oxymoron with the emphasis on moron.

BFRs are good shooters, at least my 475/480 is and it's just a plain 7" barreled version. (It did have timing issues as manufactured, but I was able to get that corrected with a trip back to the factory. ::) ) If I were buying another 480 SA revolver, I would not be concerned about accuracy (it's fine) and look at how the platforms actually handle. BFRs are big - even the smaller cartridges- while FA and other revolvers are handier in terms of carry or packing. Of course, size and weight, affect how they shoot and handle recoil too.

there was a guy at the linebaugh seminar that had put a bisley grip frame on a bfr. i shot it and was impressed with the work he did.
