Gold and Wolves
« on: July 12, 2006, 03:30:01 PM »
I have been doing a little prospecting lately and was reopening a trail back to an old mine yesterday.  I cut through several black spruce and was sweating from the efforts but managed to open the trail again.  Then as I started up the trail, just ahead about 35 yards away was a little downed willow.  Shoot I thought, until I glanced about 5 yards behind the tree and there was a wolf staring at me. Wow!  Neat!  All that noise and he was just sitting there in the middle of the day watching me.

I wasn't able to get the suction dredge going....... >:(
But did manage to use the dredge box as a sluice and get some gold.  Best spot I have ever been in.  Got some decent pin-head sized stuff and some flour gold.

Next trip......sleeping bag and tent.  It is about 5 miles off of the Richardson back in there.

Actually I returned to the spot and got the best gold that I have ever found.  A friend is bringing some rubber mating back from Anchorage and I am headed back to the spot to dredge again.  I just need some little equipment modifications and I should do well.

Gold is dropping to almost $650 an ounce though. :'(

I've done a little panning and snipeing for gold here in Wyoming and in Idaho Panhandle..  know the basics.. but I'm takeing a pan and snuffer bottle with me to Alaska..  Ya' think I could find enough for the guide's tip???     (I'd rather give him dirty old money, and keep the yellar gold for myself.. )...   Les
