How long?

Not that it makes us any kind of expert, but how long have you been predator hunting? A year or two, maybe five or ten years or more? I think it would be interesting to see what kind of experience we have here.....let's hear it.

Onecoyote.
I will jump in here and help you get started, I made my very first call in 1947 using my mouth and continued to call like for quite a while before i made my first hand made call, I am 72 years old and have slowed down some but still get a thrill out of calling them in. I have friends who ranch and they will call me when the cows are calving.

Would have to have been 1974 & we are talking Red Fox being the largest predator around.
Bought the darn call and read the paper that came with it. Sounded like one of those kid's dolls, must have taken me a year to learn to operate it as the instructional tapes were unheard of.
Called in my first Coyote in 1977 and there was no turning back. Cars started hitting a few by 1979 and most were reported as Wolves
Have read alot of good articles that have helped greatly but have to say that being busted by the coyote it'self has been the best teacher.

I'm fairly new to the sport myself. I've been calling predators for about 12 years now, maybe a tad longer

Glanceblamm, I could write a book about my predator hunting days and I may someday before I die lol. I was the one asking about others, not about me.
Some people know about me from the internet and my past. To me my past don't matter, I want to find out about others, that's why I asked.
I'd like to see folks answers about how they got started in this great sport and how long they have been playing the game.

Dang, did I scare everybody away? I've only been in this sport a FEW years, let's hear some responses folks.....Help keep the board going.
Two guys that come to this site have meet me in person, oso45-70 and kyote. Let me tell you guys something, both those guys are for real and super guys in my opinion. That's why I asked the question about the rest of you.
It don't matter if you have been calling for 1 year, 5 years or 55 years. Let's hear about it. If you love predator hunting like some of us do........We are brothers are we not?

I would REEEELLLYY like to meet you guys but by the time I picked Oso45-70 up I would have traveled 1,100 miles with yet another 179 miles to reach the museum.
I just dont think it would be fair to Joe to ask him to ride on the back of my steel horse with wheels for that kind of distance
Sorry for blowing the post. I would really like to hear more response to this thread.

That's why Ferrets are not legal to own in many states. The only native Ferret in the U.S. is the black footed Ferret and you sure don't want to be killing one of them. How big are these Ferrets you are killing?

Jamaldog87, All the ferrets in this country except for the Blackfooted Ferret are from other country's. Unless people let them go in your area they ain't going to be there, they are not a natural animal to the Americas. I'm sure in any state you can kill non native Ferrets so go for it.

jamaldog,
where you see elk in pinellas county??for that matter where in fl. do you hunt elk with your air gun??unless you are pretending those lizards that run around there by the balzillions are elk.you have not metioned fruit rats and mice.at my pops house they are always tring to get into the house..we set up in the garage at night and shoot them.got drop em are they run off to a place you can not retrieve em and stink up ther place..next time I am there I am going to look harder for the ferrets.I don't like them either.

the elk i see up in the pan handle and i use to hunt them with a 454 ruger. there gone now(over hunting) but i was good when they were there. i only killed one it was small and i ate most of it. FWC says that you could kill them in large numbers(bad on them) and that why there gone.
