Encore Pro-hunter and new scope range report.
« on: July 15, 2006, 09:19:46 AM »
I am shooting the Encore Pro-hunter 50 Cal, 3-9x40 Omega Muzzleloading Rifle scope Silver BDC-250 and TC 250 Gr. Bonded Shock Wave sabots over 120 gr. of loose triple 7 and Remington Kleen bore M/L primers.  I got the gun sighted in very quick after I bore sighted it and started shooting sub-MOA groups at 100 yards. I did a final 3 shot group at 100 yards and all three bullet holes were touching. I put a 4 inch clay target out at 200 yards to see how close I could come with the new set up. My buddy was watching through my spotting scope and when I shot he said, you blew it up. I hit the 4 inch clay target at 200 yards.  Then I shot several more at 200 yards and could not be happier with this set up.

As far as loading, I did a 9 shot string without cleaning or swabbing the barrel and did not have a problem loading the sabots in the gun. It was a little tighter than a clean barrel, but still I was able to load it with little effort. I shot a total of 30 rounds through the gun today. I wish my Browning slug gun would of shot this well today..

I can say that the trajectory compensating reticle works as advertised.  ;D ;D

sureshot2040, I have the new synthetic Pro-hunter thumbhole stock with the 28 inch fluted barrel. I also ordered the New Pro-hunter stock without the thumbhole for my 7mm08 set up. I paid about $765.00 for the gun alone, the scope, mounts and rings were not included. I bought it about 2 1/2 months ago and have tried several different loads and settled on my current set up, I also switched out my Leupold 2X9X40 for the new Nikon Omega Muzzleloading Rifle scope  BDC-250. I have another 50 Cal muzzleloader that shoots just as accurate, but I only use 90 gr. of triple 7 under a 195 gr. Precision Rifle DC duplex sabot. It is not the pro-hunter version though. Love my Encores... ;D

I must say the Encore Pro-hunter is one fine looking rifle. The thumbhole stock and the fast remove tight sealing breack plug are the bomb! And they by all reports shoot great!

Good Choice!

I still do, I like how easy it is to grab the spend 25 ACP shells, but as far as accuracy and ability to load consecutive sabots, the new set up works great. I guess the Kleen bore primers work as advertised.

I just purchased the pro hunter . I have it set up with a Leupold 3x9 . Got a bunch of bullets, shock wave 200 gr, Pr 195 , 215 QT's and dead center 200 . have not had time to try it out. can't wait . If you found any quirks in  the rifle please pass along.

I have not found anything wrong with the new Pro-hunter, it functions flawlessly. I did try the 195 gr. DC duplex saboted bullets and could not get the Pro-hunter to shoot them well. The load I posted above is what I found that works best in my Pro-hunter. If you don't find a good load, try what I am using. I had a Leupold 3X9X40 on mine, but I switch to the new Nikon Omega for the bullet compensation feature.  ;D

I want the new Pro Hunter - looks like a great gun.  But, I also want a new Freedom Arms, a 700 BDL Mountain rifle, an Ed Brown, A-Bolt Mountain Ti, and an Excalibur Crossbow... Decisions, decisions.  Congrats on the nice gun

HuntingGuy, I have heard a lot of good feedback from the Pro-hunter Encore. 250 yards shots are not out of the question and very accurate.  ;D

I sighted it in dead on at 100 yards as recommended, the scope does the trajectory compensating for me.
