Question for Brown 97D owners
« on: July 16, 2006, 02:47:00 AM »
What are you guys using for a bore guide with these rifles?  I've got one ordered and would like to have a good bore guide to use.  Thanks.

Alan, If you can clean it from the chamber end why would you need a bore guide? I believe they are a falling block design which should let you clean from the chamber. Regards, Byron

I modified a bore guide that I had for another rifle - don't know what it was for originally. It is difficult to adapt bore guides from other falling block rifles because the breech block is so narrow on the M97d, it takes a very narrow bore guide. I don't know of an easy solution, but there is probably a bore guide for another rifle that might work, but I don't know what it would be. I should have called Brown, but I have a useble one now.  Why use a bore guide? To align the rod to minimize damage to the chamber throat, to keep solvent and crud out of the action and if you use a nylon coated rod you will shave off the nylon on the sharp edges of the chamber and extractor, and it's just faster to have alignment on the rod when brushing a bore.

For my Encore barrels I did what dodd has done with the cartridge cases, works great and cost just pennys. Should work the same for the M97's.

Alan, I have several BF's, one rifle, and 2 pistols, as well as a smattering of T/C's and encore's, both rifle and pistol. I use a brass muzzle guard that come's on Kleen-Bore rods, or if I'm using a Tetra rod, it comes with a delron muzzle guard.
I know that their designed for the other end, but they do a fairly decent job of keeping the rod straight as I push thru from the breech end. Gypayman
