Help me decide
« on: July 16, 2006, 02:55:47 AM »
Gun season here in SC will be here soon, archery even sooner.  I have 2 loads to choose for deer season. 1. 130 speer hot core @ 2800 fps. this will group .625 @ 100 yards.  2. 130 interbonds @ 2900 fps this will group 1.5 @ 100 yards
The rifle is a .270 and most shots will be in the 100 yard range. What do you think?  thanks, tvc15

Either load will work just fine within the hunting situation that you present. Since the Speer load is a little more accurate than the Hornady load, I'd go with it and do some deer hunting. Both are good bullets that will work well on South Carolina deer. I hope you get a nice buck in velvet. SC is about the only state that I know of where that is legally possible. I have hunted SC several times and love hunting down around Fairfax.

Either will work just fine, but I would go for the Speer load.

Ricciardelli,  what happened.  You look like only 1/2 the man you used to be .

TVC15,

I would maybe keep looking some for another accurate bullet.  No doubt the Speer will do fine on a deer, but have you thought of an Accubond?  I think it is the better than most . . . whether you need it or not.

1.5" is fine for hunting.  I'd take the sturdier bullet, the Accubond.  At 400 yards your Point Of Impact would be off by 3" versus 1.25".  In other words the difference between the Speer and the AB's POI is less than 2".  If that makes a difference you shouldn't be taking the shot.

That's what old age does to you...some people grow big white beards...others get long gray hair...I got half-assed...

Actually I have no idea what happened...

Either load will work fine on any deer under two hundred yards.

Ricciardelli, I would say that your photo is sized too large. I'm not sure about this system but I belive on the old board the avitar had to be 90X90 pixels at 72 ppi. Yours is 320X240 pixels.

I'd go with the Speer because they work great.
