Custom Marlin 95 ?
« on: July 16, 2006, 09:33:53 PM »
What is the biggest cartridge you can put into an 1895 marlin.I have a new cowboy in 45-70,but I want to get it in something different.I've read alot of different aticles on customized 95's.I've seen the wild west guns in 50 alaskan. I've seen 50-110's,the 450 alaskan. They say the 450 alaskan is just under the 458 Win..With the pressures it can take are all these rounds about the same. Can the beefed up 45-70 do about the same as the longer cartrides. Is it worth doing something different. Thanks,Dave.

Dave, IMO there is little advantage to any of the 45cal. cartridges over the 45/70. The marlin action limits the pressures you can load them to. The 50 alaskan is a real step up in power. I don't think you can go longer than the 50Alaskan in the marlin action. If you want something different get the 50 alaskan, Thats what I did. Byron
