Hi all.

I am at present building a .45 cal Sharps 74 along the lines of a Buffalo/Plains rifle and am doing a little research about building a second BPC rifle later in the year... I am interested to findout information on the Gove Under Lever Rolling blocks? Are there any shooters out there using this style of rifle? Are there kits available for converting a Rolling Block to the Gove improvement? I donot know a lot about Rolling Blocks, modifying an action maybe a major job, however I do like the priciple of the under lever.

Military Rolling Block actions are relatively easy to come by here in Australia, however importing an action by an individual is not so easy. So if need be, it is advisable to alter an action here. This next rifle project will be a .40-82 Crossno and I thought a Rolling Block would make an interesting rifle, especially the Under Lever style. I am still a while of starting this. I have to finish my current project 1st, but thought it is never too early to get info together...

Cam--Try Dave Higginbotham at www.lonestarrifles.com. These guys make the nicest rolling blocks I have seen, and they have a Gove conversion. They can help you if anyone can. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Am checking the Lone Star web site. I cannot see a Gove Under lever listed, not to say it isn`t there. I will email them and enquire further...... Thanks again!

I somehow overlooked that under the "other" products section at Lone Star. Too much coffee in the system I think, need to clear my head with a beer! :lol: Just visited and saw the Gove under lever rifle... fine looking firearm!!! I cannot open the pics, but the thumbnails do look nice... I did hear of another company altering Rolling Blocks, but can`t remember where I saw the advertisement. However, Lone Star looks to be a good place to start!

Sounds like your government is starting to loosen up a little? Is the word going 'round about the effects of confiscation on the crime rate?

Appologies for not replying earlier, I was sure I had!

To answer your question - Unfortunately "NO" our Govt hasn`t loosend up a little. If anything it has got worse. Handguns have now been hit by a new wave of Bans, with many international competitions for us Aussies now in jeopardy...

I would like to report good news, however the unfortunate reality is we are losing our firearms and the access to legally own them and this downward trend will continue till we have none!!! I believe the Australian Govt has a greed to a U.N paper which is striving for all firearms to be removed from private ownership! I do know that our Govt is advising STH Africa on removing firearms from their society! You may be surprised to hear that every major shooting in the U.S has a big impact here and is basically a nail in our coffin too!

For now we who own firearms, enjoy our sport and/or recreation while we can, for as long as we can. Some like me, let the Govt know we are not happy and remind them of their stupidity. But it does little, basically - nothing! So, Don`t drop your guard over there and end up as we here. Enjoy, stick together and never give up the ground you have!

Have you blokes tried banding together and un-electing these varmints? As we say in the States, "Throw the rascals out!" Only drawback that I can see is that BOTH parties might have subscribed to the same damnfool idea...

Banding together and voting them out is a good thought. Unfortunately basically impossible here! All the major political parties are against private firearm ownership!!! Campaigning against the laws brought into place to confiscate our firearms has achieved nothing to date.

We have no mainstream politicians who will admit to being envolved in the shooting sports, let alone supporting them. There are no sporting greats, current or past, no media personnel, Television or Movie Actors who will support the shooting sports and private firearm ownership. The majority of the population want firearms removed from private hands and to top it off, some shooters are happy to see certain firearms banned.

When Our semi-automatic firearms and pump action shotguns were confiscated, many shooters supported this as they believed no hunter needed a semi automatic firearm! The new handgun bans also have support from shooters too. Absolutely crazy!!! Even some shooters cannot see the bigger picture....

This doesn`t even go into the Anti-Hunting sentiment here which is even stronger than the anti firearm crowd! Many hunters will hunt to exterminate a pest, hunt to put meat in the freezer, however I can count the number of hunters I know with wall mounted trophies on one hand - less actaully! You can`t win these debates when supporting firearm ownership and hunting in this country - Facts and the realities of what we do and enjoy are never accepted by the opposition!!!

This is some of our realities here. Not great, but we make the best with what we have and can do... I enjoy my shooting very much and am constantly working on my next projects. When the sh-t hits the fan and the Media and Govt want more restrictions to us, I throw it back at them. Doesn`t get me anywhere, but is nice to know I can try.

On a brighter not, I was driving my road side boundary yesterday afternoon to make sure my cows were not getting out onto the road and saw the biggest black wild boar I have ever seen digging in one of my paddocks [pastures]. I am going to go take a look in a min or two. Wish MY BPCR was built :lol:
