mec 650
« on: July 18, 2006, 03:29:29 AM »
I bought a mec 650 used and att he time didn't know it didn't resize the brass.  I now have a bunch of double A hulls that won't chamber because of this.  Is it safe to size the brass now with a super sizer ( mec pruduct) or is there a way of starting over and size them?

I know the sizer works the brass without primer contact but working on a live round doesn't sound right or safe

I believe the Supersizer directions suggest you not do live rounds, so if you do, it's at your own risk.  That said, yes, I've done it without problems.

Thank you.   I'm thinking right now of going after a used grabber if the price stays reasonable ( ebay so who knows).  I can take my barrel and see which rounds chamber easily and rebox them and then cut open the others to save components ( shot and powder)

BTW    After I posted here I got the briliant idea of asking MEC themselves ..... official answer is cut the shells open and start over ( just like you said) the unofficial answer is I shouldn't have any problems if I do it ( again just like you said).

I've used the MEC Super Sizer on loaded shells many times with no problems. Don't try to go as fast as you would with empties though. I once had to size 400 .410's that while they would chamber in my Model 42 repo. they wouldn't chamber in a Charles Daly O/U(very tight). All the manufacturers put disclaimers in their instructions to avoid law suits. They have no control over the actions of nitwits, hense the warnings. Most of the gun mfg. state never to use reloads in their products(BS!). I can't think of a way to size a case in a super sizer that would cause an AD. Maybe I'm not a nitwit after all.
