25-06 handloads, assistance please
« on: July 18, 2006, 04:35:26 AM »
I am getting ready to start loading for my 25-06.  Can anyone suggest some loads that they have had good luck with.  I am more interested in good heavy loads for whitetail hunting than varmint hunting, but I will take all suggestions.  My varmint hunting is more for eliminating than anything else, so I have been considering selling my 223 and 243 barrels and strictly using my 25-06 for all of my hunting.

Also, has anyone tried the hornady supershocks for deer hunting?  they look like a pretty good design and are a little cheaper.

Thanks

Josh

IMR-4350 with a 117 grain Sierra Spitzer worked well for me in years past.
I don't like to quote exact charges on line though.

I had the best luck with sierra 75g hp and 120g hp with IMR 4350 with that barrel. Dont remember the charge offhand, but they both shot 1moa or less at 100 yards.

Work up to these slowly:
Win. Brass   50.5 Gr. H4831 & 117 Sierra BT - Bullet a little soft but great Whitetail bullet, very accurate
54.5 Gr. of Re 22 & 100 TSX - Gen. use & 100 Bal. Tip for Var. & rib cage Deer

                52 Gr. Re 22 & 115 TSX
                53 Gr. Re 22 & 115 Bal. Tip

               57 Gr. Re. 25 & 120 Nos. Part.

Watch for pressure, especially this time of year. Some of these were shot more in a Sendero, back off about 10% & work up slow!!!!

darat100, i only have about 80 rounds of reloads down the tube of my handi 25/06. i have only used imr4831 & a sierra 100 grain s.p. bullet. i am finding that charges between 51 & 52.5 grain work fine...50.5 is about a 3"group & 53 is about a 4" group...between 51 & 52.5 i shoot 3 or 4 shot groups that are 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 thats my testing so far....this is my gun of course yours may be different....
