Ackley Improved chambers

I have 3 rifles I would like to chamber to Ackley chambers. Is it possible to rent a reamer and go/no go gauges and hand ream the chambers with an extended T-handle as there is not too much steel to remove? I'm a retired tool maker and don't have access to a lathe. I feel it should be an easy project but want to check before I do this as there is probably something I haven't thought about. Calibers are 25-06, 30-06 and 338-06. What are your thoughts on this?

No, you can't do that. The barrels need to be set back a turn in order for an Ackley chamber to headspace properly. I get to fix lots of rifles that people have done that to, they bring them in because the cases break in half when fired. If you want to do this you might check around to see if anyone has a lathe you can rent time on so you can do it right.

Renting three reamers and guage sets plus time on a lathe is likely to equal what a smith who happens to have those reamers and gauges in stock might charge.  NOBADE is right of course. the overlong chambers that would result are awfully hard on brass. You'd also need a barrel vise and an action wrench to avoid damaging the finish on your weapons..
