??? I have a set 20 22 sihouettes. I have never been to  a range were silhouettes were set up. Can someone tell me how they are placed. Are they on the ground are they on some kind of platform. Thanks Brushy SE Okla.

The targets are normally set on rails.  These can be of any material you choose.  Our range has the chicken line (25 yards) set on metal stands that are on posts cemented into the ground.  The other three targets are set on railroad ties that we lag bolted inch wide strips of steel to.  There is no "standard" and you can use anything that best fits your budget & range layout.

One thing to keep in mind is the stands (and rail if all one peice) are stout enough to not allow the targets to fall off if the stand is hit. Some of our rails will let 3 or 4 fall with one rail hit, so you have to get a cease fire to go set them up again to continue. As for order, they can be set in banks of five next to each other or you can build stands that stack them, five on top of the other five like at Whittington. Just depends on your range layout and the size and shape of your berms.

To see how we set them up why not just bring your shootin' irons and attend one of the IHMSA matches in Okla. ?

Matches are held at two differnt gun clubs in Okla.....one is held at Tri-City Gun Club in Norman (where I'm located) with the next match being Sunday Aug. 20th and the other is at Okla. City Gun Club in Arcadia and their next match is Sunday Aug. 6th.

If you need directions or any other info feel free to email me at Ike40x40@aol.com

Chickens are at 25 yards.  It is 25 yards between each additional bank.  (Pigs at 50, Turkeys 75 & Rams 100 from the firing line.)

The distance I am asking about is between chicken and chicken not between chicken and pig.
Thanks Brusy

The rules state one animal width between targets.  But, if that spacing is not available, it's not a big deal.

Yep! all the chickens are at 25 meters and they are supposed to be the width of the targets apart - but as long as they don't touch it isn't a big deal. They just don't want you to knock two targets down with a single shot. Its been done before and we decided that it counted but it only happened once. A shooter hit the wood just below the chicken's "foot" and it went up and landed on the one next to it - taking them both out. 4 chickens with five shots doesn't sound unusual but when it was three with two shots it sounds a bit more unusual. (now you understand why we let him have the extra bird. He wasn't a great shooter but he enjoyed himself. He did eventually get better but was never threatening to anyone even in his own bracket.
