Recent import Sistema Colts
« on: July 18, 2006, 07:23:21 PM »
As you know...many of you... the   Sistema was a Colt 1911 of the 1927 modification made under license from Colt by Argentina.     Lipsey imported recently maybe as much as a couple thousand of them.  C&R holders bought many if not most of them.  But after shipment... they were considered less than advertised "good" condition by many...including myself.

I sent one of two I purchased back because of mechanical short comings.  But.... if the very worn bluing on metal and grips dosen't turn you off... wait until Lipsey offers them again at a reduced price probably.  What they were offered for to begin with, under higher expectations of condition, was at $297 each.

Niner - some of them can look pretty beat up with the bluing shot, grips cracked and metal looking worn but somwe of these can shoot like a charm.  And, if it is mechanically sound they can always be cleaned up and dressed nicely.  However, these things were made in Argentina a long time ago and there is no tellin' how hard or soft the metal really is.  None the less, I bought mine almost 40 years ago and she is still tickin'.  I have replaced some innards and grips but otherwise she is fairly stock, and totally reliable.

If this one is reliable I would have it cleaned up and use it.  Mikey.

I'm keeping the one.  In fact I'm on my way to the range in just a few minutes to see how it shoots.  I would have kept the other if there weren't some problems with the safety and one of the fastenings for the screw in one of the grips.  Heck, the fedex cost to send one of them back was $31.50!   I would have kept it if it was right.
