My trapping is over already!!
« on: July 19, 2006, 03:39:00 AM »
Last week my 84 year old mother fell and broke both shoulders and her left wrist. My 84 year old father is scheduled for back surgery August 8th. I saved up 6 weeks of vacation to go trap coyotes.Layed out 6 long lines in 2 different states, got permission, got my traps ready, got enough lure and bait and made up 800 gallons of waxed dirt.My mothers rehab is 6 weeks minimum. My Dad's rehab is 6 weeks to 3 months depending on how extensive the procedure is.I'm a R.N. and so is my wife so we will take care of them in their home. It's only 8 miles from my place. We really have had a "good hatch" with coyotes this year, lots of sign.Everyday or so at work one of the employees comes up and asks me to come trap coyotes on their place.Well at least I'm ready for next year.I also applied for an ADC job, can't really consider that now.The day before my mother fell I took her walleye fishing at the trailer,we fished from 1:30 until 4:00 P.M. she said she couldn't fish anymore as her arms hurt from catching so many fish.I found a sharp break that a big school had run smelt up against and they were chewing. She's still telling people in the hospital about this.Maybe I can run some snares after this all settles down.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Hang in their Hoss! You might not be able to run a long line but I'm sure you do a "shortie"...take the edge off. Somethings better than nothing.

Took my wife to the lake.Went out fishing real early,10:30 A.M. Set her up with a bottom bouncer, spinner and a crawler.Explained how to fish it,keep touching the bottom, lift up, drop back down and touch the bottom.Troll about 15 ft.,she says "I've got something going here!"I net a 20 inch walleye for her.Her first every, never went walleye fishing before. She has a 5 fish limit in the livewell, her fish are from 15 to 20 inches.I haven't had time to bait my rod yet.She eats a sandwich and drinks a pop.I catch 4,15 to 18" fish and one about 7 1/2 pounds(I released it).Back to the cabin before noon. She says why do you stay out so long when you fish by yourself or with your Dad?How does one explain this? She pointed out 4  good coyote locations from the boat. She said this fall we can fish and trap coyotes around the reservoir.I wonder if I can get a bowmounted skinning rig.Took walleye, hush puppies and beans to my Mom in the hospital.Took some fish over to the residents at the Nursing Home. They loved it.

Great Yotero!    Glad to see you had such success with wife and fishing.  Explain, nope, no way as fisherman  know  there are so many variables.  Same  occurance once when i guides some very well to do people from Chicago , Ill  musky fishing.  The lady wore a full length mink coat in boat  ( late October fishing with snow squalls) and  was newly married.  Any rate  lady  threw three casts out and caught  two muskys,  her husband threw  baits and trolled suckers all day , NADDA!
Hope your mom is doing well and know she appreciated the fish plus those other  residents.  Cant beat  fresh fish  fixed up.  When my mother was in hospice she  really looked forward to the  food i brought for home for her, like fish,  veggies from garden ect.
At any rate,  you have trained your wife right with her recognizing yote trapping sites and for her to suggest fishing and trapping come trapping season,,,, whoooooeee.......,,,,  you  got one of kind wife there, dont let her get away....
