I just got my American Rifleman and the cover photo is of a new Taurus 1911. Haven't read about it yet. What do you know about this 1911-- is it any good? Is it standard enough to be compatible with aftermarket parts?

According to the article it comes standard with a lot of goodies and is accurate but only time will tell whether it stands up to the many that have proceeded it.

Have been bugging the taurus rep at the nra convention for the past two years about this. It was supposed to come out a long time ago. Hope it was worth the wait.

A friend of mine who does a LOT of shooting saw one at the Shot Show and was pretty wild about the fit and finish.
Now, what weapon at any show such as the Shot Show would not be well finished?

That said, I am not a Taurus fan.

I have been looking for another fullsize 1911 in that price range to use in CDP class of IDPA. I might give my Kimbers a rest if this thing works out. If it doesn't, I bet I can sell it and recover my investment. Might even make a couple bucks! Guess I better get one on order today, this will be my first Taurus----------shudder!!

I am a dealer and just got the taurus in, we sell it for $480. This gun suprised the hello out of me. I cant belive this gun came in like this. THis gun shoots like you would not believe. I could not believe it . It shot as good as my kimber series one. The trigger is rediculous (as in good). The only down fall to the gun that i can see is the hammer has the lock built into it. other than that dollar for dollar the best i have seen. By the way i love very high end guns. This gun is impressive.

Don't much care for the front strap countour... not round enough... much like the middle year Springfields... Still the one I looked at was better than the Phillipine 1911s (CD, RIA, etc.)

I just purchased one from my local dealer and I agree with you. My trigger pull was at 5 1/2 lbs which wasn't hardly light enough for me but everything else was excellent. The Heinie sights were ok for general shooting but I believe with a good set of target sights and a 3# tigger pull it would be an excellent target pistol. It has all the bells and whistles and is well worth the money. Now we will see how it holds up.

I finally handled one last week. It was priced at $499. I thought the black plastic grips weren't too pretty, but other than that the appearance was ok. The trigger was crisp but a bit heavier than I like; fine for a carry gun, though

. I actually like the Heine sights with the superimposed dots. Since the front sight is not in range of either the top or bottom of my bifocals when I hold the pistol at arm's length, I find it quicker than the 3-dot setups. Personal preference. My only real complaint is that the slide release was very stiff--two hands required to operate. That should smooth out with use. I'm saving up.

I bought a Taurus PT1911 yesterday. It was too late to go out to my private range to fire it. I just got done field striping & oiling it. The fit is excellent. The finish is very good. Mine is the blued model. I hope to put some round's through tinight after work. When I do, I'll let you know how the thing works.

Well, After two outing's with the Taurus PT 1911 I can tell you that I am very satasfied with the gun. I now have 250 round's through it without a hint of a problem. It is very accurate, the sight's are great & it shoot's smoothly. I will change the grip's when I can find some rubber replacement's. I usually think that a handgun need's at least 500 round's to break in but I think this one was ready to go after the first 50 or so. It has a good finish & the part fit is excellent. If you are thinking about buying one, do it! You won't be dissapointed.

O.k. Now after 1000 round's through the TAURUS PT1911, I am compleatly satisfied with it's performance. I replaced the Thin plastic factory grip's with a pair of Hogue palm swell rubber grip's. That helped the gun feel better in my hand's. I also had my gunsmith do a trigger job on it this morning. He set it at 4lbs. It came with a 7lb trigger pull. Not bad but I like a lighter pull. I will try it out Sunday with a bunch of ammo to see how I really like it.

Sorry I haven't had time to give a full report on the PT1911. To busy shooting it I guess. 2500+ rounds & still going strong. I used it to shoot my first USPDA match & it out ran my by a long ways! I'll talk some more about it later this week when I get a little time.

The sights are adjustable for drift only & you have to punch or push them. Also, after many times in & out of a holster the finish on the front end of the slide is showing some wear. It is still a very good firearm. It cost $450 +tax. I am waiting for the SS model to come out. I will get one of those also.

Kansas45, that is a pretty glowing review of the Taurus if after 2500+ rounds the only negative that you can mention is holster wear which you will experience with any brand. I think this must be a pretty good pistol and will probably get one. Thanks for the information

Have enjoyed reading comments on the Taurus 1911 while waiting to find one in my area. Finally got mine today and will take it to the range soon. Hope it will feed and eject as well as my 220 Sig, since it will reliably feed just about anything put in it. Will report on it as soon as I fire some rounds.

Finally got to the range today. Well pleased with how it fed and ejected. Tried a few clips of RN jacketed, LSWC, and jacketed HP. Fed everything and ejected empties with no problems. Don't have anything to test how many pounds for trigger but mine doesn't feel heavy and it breaks without creep. It shot fairly close to point of aim. Shooting just a little low but I think that is me never shooting with the Heinie sights before. IMHO, it it well with the money.

No. Mine is blue. Made some typos in my other message. Should have typed, well worth the money. So far, everything is working fine. Want to check how many pounds for trigger pull but haven't had a chance to go and get it checked. Think I can live with it as it is now. Checking on a case tumbler so I can clean up a bunch of brass and reload some lead SWC.

I bought one from a local dealer for $449. My experience level is limited with 1911's so I cant give you a detailed knockdown on the gun except to say it feels good, shoots good and is priced right.

I shot 50 cent piece size groups at 20 yrds on an indoor range, the gun never malfunctioned through 150 rounds of 230 Ball and 185 JHP ammo. I mix-matched the ammo in each magazine to check it for Failure to feed etc and NO problems.

I cannot attest to the trigger pull weight etc but it works for me...I like the sights a lot and I like the thin feel as I am not huge paw'd.

Bottom line, if all of the Taurus PT1911 are as good as mine, the high dollar makers better look out.

Just went to the Taurus web site. The PT1911 is a damn good looking gun. Im going to have to get my hands on one and see how it feels. I saw a stainless version on the web site. I may have to look into finding one of those. Are the parts standard with other 1911's?
