Too bad kansas45 hasn't updated his opinion after a year or a post on this thread by any other shooter who has put a gozillian rounds through one. I'm not an expert on 1911's although I've shot them (military issue) for over 30 years. The PT1911 is the first 1911 I've owned. I've had it for about 3 months and have shot about 1000 rounds of the cheapest .45 ammo I can find. Mechanically the pistol has shot flawlessly. Accuracy has been excellent except for one box of Independence 230gr FMJ. Same session switch to WWB and the pistol shot sub 2" groups at 15 yards. The only thing I didn't like about the pistol was the grips and that was a $20, 3-minute fix. The only things I have to judge the PT1911 on is that it has functioned flawlessly and shot accurately at 15 and 25 yards. Can't tell you how it shoots at shorter ranges because I've never shot it shorter. Except for one box of ammo, any lack of accuracy has been the guy pulling the trigger and not the pistol.
Is the PT1911 "better" than the high end 1911's? Nope. I've shot a few and they were darned nice shooters. I've also fired some of the low-end 1911's and they were darn nice shooters. I'm not willing to blow the bucks on a $1500-$2500 pistol. Heck, I've been on the range and got to listen to a guy tell me just how much he spent on his Kimber, initially, and how much on all the mods and how bad my PT1911 was. Funny thing, I was griping about not getting under 2" groups at 15 yards and he was happy to get under 6" groups at 10 yards. He probably had a better pistol than I did, have a feeling his accuracy didn't have much to do with the pistol.
Prior to buying the PT1911, I hadn't paid too much attention to Taurus postings. Every Taurus I'd fired shot very well except the PT22. It seems that the majority of the folks who don't like Taurus don't own one and just don't like them because someone else said they weren't good or knew someone who knew someone that had problems. Very few, the Taurus is a bad gun and here are the facts, posts.
I own a PT1911 and like it so far. I wouldn't buy another one (unless I found one at a price I couldn't turn down) because I have one. If (when) I buy another 1911, it will be a different manufacturer. But then I wouldn't buy a duplicate of any other handgun I own.
Enough of my morning rant. Time to go shooting and hope the targets don't jump as the bullet gets there.
Good shooting.
