Mortar base
« on: July 19, 2006, 06:47:42 PM »
It seems like I have learned that during the civil war two bases were used. I have seen a photo of one that was a sled design and I would like to build that one first. I can't find the photo now and the search isn't working so does anybody have plans or print of one for a golf ball coehorn? I do have auto cad.
Thanks=======Michael

The sled type bases were used on the bigger stuff, 8" and up, from the 1841 pattern of seacoast mortars.  See this page at cwartillery.org for examples.  I know of no Coehorn mount that used a sled, although many have been built by reproducers.

Here is a golf ball-scaled sled mount for a Coehorn.  Adjust the dimensions (like the width) for your barrel dimensions.

I emailed a .dwg file too.
