S&W 2206 configurations.
« on: July 22, 2006, 04:16:48 PM »
Does anyone know if the 2206 came in any other versions other than 6 inch with target sights.  The one Ime looking at has a straight partridge sight on front but the rear is the same sight as on my 7 in 41 bbl.  Knowing they werent really popular but am thinking this one shoots fairly well.  I have the alloy models in 3.5-4 and 6in and the 6in is the only one of them that shoots decent groups.
AND did anyone see the shooting show last week with Roy Jenks and Dick Metcalf where they said the top break S&W is the gun that actually won the west.  Not the Colt single action army that everyone thinks won the west but the S&W was documented to be the pistol of choice of gunfighters and the Colt was for buffalo hunters.  ........

I have a 6" that had fixed sights, but I got adj. rear sights for it. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have wasted the time and effort the adjustable rear sights. The fixed were fine, and I've never had to touch the adjustable ones.

I think I remember seeing a 4" 2206, but I'm really not sure. I tried looking up it up on the web when I first saw this post, and I was amazed at the negative comments I found about it. Maybe I just got lucky, but my 2206 has been a fantastic gun. The only ammo it won't shoot is the cheap Remmington Golden Bullet. Everything else cycles just fine. And I really love the magazine release.

I read the Gun Tests report and had to wonder what they were smokin' when they wrote that one. Their experience with the 2206 and mine were nothing alike. Of course, they probably just shot it once, and I've had mine for years.

I don't know why they didn't catch on, unless having the lug on top was just too radical for most folks. I hope someone else will know if there was a shorter barrel for the 2206 (maybe that was what the 6 stood for?), but it's been so long, I may just be thinking of the alloy model.

Thanks for the reply.  I can buy this 6" for $350 and would simply add it to my others.  Have a 2213, 622 4" fixed, 422 6" adj. a 41 with all three bbls.  All have been to gunsmith for trigger and fit.  All function perfectly.  Just guess I like smith auto's and yes I also like the mag release.   I pack them for personal defense at times and have 38's, 9mm's and .45 autos also.
I was suprised that I got no replies on the post about the S&W topbreak being the gun that won the west according to Jenks and Dick Metcalf.  Guess I didn't word it right.  Ime retired with a spinal cord injury and Ime helter skelter on the coputer.  Thanks for visiting with me.  Bob

Probably most of us are too ignorant to respond to the S&W/Colt question. I know I am. However, I know that if I had my choice back then, I'd rather have had the faster reloading S&W! Say, the Wells Fargo model with the shorter barrel.

yes they made the 2206 in a 4 inch model with adjustable sights. They seem to fetch high prices on the web sites especially if they are NIB. Expect to pay 250 and up.
