UP Michigan Rondy
« on: July 22, 2006, 05:52:00 PM »
Just got back from Mi  rondy.  Lots of trappers, triple from last year attending and trappers were buying traps by  dozens .  There was a steady stream of lure and trapping supplies going out the door. The UP trappers put on nice rondy .  Very dry up in that country and saw lots of dry beaver ponds and  muskrats killed on road  traveling  looking for water.  Hope for rain shortly , an all day slow one so it soaks in.

ASA won't be the only one, not making Hutchinson.
Kansas in August,------- to much heat potential ,for me.

I echo what Lee said. A different crowd both days, and a steady one. Didn't win the canoe, but won the "#6" knife that I wanted and a couple of traps. Weather nice but hot, and I look forward ot coming back next year.

While the place may be air conditioned,my sleeping quarters are not.I cannot fathom, spending 5 nights in a sauana, trying to get some shut eye.
The price of that air conditioning,is a minimum $100.00 a table.I will use that money, to sponsor this site for another year.
I will miss not seeing you ,but economics plays into this years NTA convention.I hope I am wrong, but I think there will be more dealers than trappers attending.
There are only a hand full of states, where NTA attendance is good, and I have a gut feeling---kansas aint one of them.

Geesh!  and all I was sayin was that I'd miss ya :'(

I don't disagree with your other comments but I do hope you miss out on on hell of a show, for the NTA's sake that is.  This type of thing happens when emotion takes place of reasoned choice making.  We'll just make the best of it and hope the western and far mi-western trappers show up to suppot the cause.  This $3 plus gasoline won't help any either.

now back to the other point...you're gettin soft...needing air conditioning to sleep!

I thinky Boggy has  gotten brain fart syndrome from all the heat driving to all these summer rondys and  finally said ENOUGH!  The man wants to stay home and actually work on some muskrat and beaver traps and  put on 100 cup coffee maker and  STAY HOME...for awhile that is.... ;D

I remember the 1981 NTA Convention at Marshalltown Iowa. I've never been so overheated in my life, every moment was miserable for an Upper Michigan native. Even when I got into the air conditioned  motel room it would take a half hour to stop sweating. After that, I don't leave the U.P. of Michigan in the Summer after that experience. Ace

:D Hey Wacky, try trapping cats and canines at -30 degrees with snowshoes in 4' of snow and a pack basket full of traps and gear and a good day's harvest to haul out. Then we'll talk about "soft trappers!" Hot places are where old retirees go to sit out their time and trap some 'dillos! LOL ;) ;D Ace

Nothing more miserable, than trapping in the heat.Except loading and unloading over a ton of trapping supplies.I do that 20 times a summer, and of course it always turns hot.I do this by myself--no lackies to help this boy. Then there is at least 8 hours for setting up.
Now if I thought Kansas was going to attract thousands of trappers to the convention, I would be there. But ,Dorothy,Toto and Wacky ,seem to be about the only ones that are gonna go--and Dorothy never buys squat for trapping supplies. And Toto always lifts his leg on my coolers.
On a  serious note,I hope the NTA does well with this convention. But ,trappers were complaining about the heat in southern Indiana at FTA convention in june--my guess is they will stay home, instead of heading to Kansas in August.

Wacky always buys a box or two of push pins!  Mostly cause he feels guilty for bumming a pepsi  :-*

And as for you Asa, when I was a kid back in the mountians of PA I had to walk three miles to school, in deep snow up hill both ways!  :P

Soft old trappers ...can't take the heat!
