GMC Sonoma Trouble Code
« on: July 23, 2006, 04:35:55 AM »
Have a 2002 Sonamo V6 Ext.   At coffe last week I head that GM has a "secret" trouble code reader build into the dash or radio display.  Can't find it in the manuals but wonder if that feature is correct.  Supposed to be on GM vehicles only.  Heard it from a well known BS'er.  Hold in two buttons and turn on the ignition switch? DG

Seems to me your well known BS'er is just bolstering his reputation. In 1996 GM went to the OBDII system that must be read with a scan tool. Prior to 1996 you could read the trouble code by jumping two terminals on the plug under the dash turning on the ignition then counting the  number of flashes of the check engine light. Next you had to have access to the codes to know what the specific flashes meant.
