45 LC / .410
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:22:48 AM »
I think I have finally found the right bullet for good accuracy out of this gun.  I had mine tapped for a scope, but itstill wasn't shooting good with standard .452 lead pill, so I ordered a Lee bullet for black powder revolvers that is .456.  Man, does that baby shoot tight now... seeing that the bullet is actually touching the rifling.  As per NEF standard, the rifling was on the large size, as I confirmed from bullets that I recovered. So, a larger bullet is the ticket.  I also got 0 leading from this.

It also seems that the bullet jump is almost a non-issue now.  I recovered some of the new pills and they bite the rifling perfectly.

If anyone is interested, I will post the bullet #  for ordering puposes.

Sounds like the .45/.410 barrels have a lot in common with the .44mag barrels!! :'(

That would be the one.  .456 - 220 - 1R  .  Midway had them a little while ago, but maybe I got the last one.  I am shooting 8.6 gr of Unique, with the bullet seated just past the last lube groove.  I have 1.622" for an OAL. I am also using liquid alx for lube. This load is far from hot, but I do not doubt that it would do the trick on a deer at up to 50 yards.

I am casting with straight weel weights.  I agree, this is probably like the .44 mag.  I have one of those barrels, and I have not shot it yet, as I've been too busy messing around on other loads.  I got a .357 barrel with the .44 mag for my wife to hunt with, but she still liked the 45 LC survivor, as it handles for her better.  I think after shooting this well with it, she can hunt with this one.
